Last Sunday when Kobe raised the Larry O'Brien and the Bill Russell (Finals MVP) trophies, he proved why he is still the best player in the world. The entire playoffs and the entire series Bryant proved why he is still better than LeBron James.
Talk about a man who has gone through so much adversity through his entire career. From the sexual assault case in Colorado to unfairly being blamed for running Shaq out of town. Kobe has been hated the most by people than any other player in the history of the NBA. But he answers the hate every time.
Kobe has been the best player in the league for about three years now and even in 2003 you could make a case that he was the best. But there are a lot of people that still hate Bryant for his past. They hate the young arrogant, cocky, selfish Kobe Bryant. Judging a man by his immature past is totally unfair. A lot of it is again the media always knocking Bryant. Just like they did with Iverson they do not want Kobe to be the face of the league. But Bryant too is forcing them to make him the face of the league for the last three years by putting up sensational numbers and last week by winning his fourth ring.
It is pretty clear the the league wants James as their No. 1 guy because he is not the way Bryant was when he was younger. LeBron is shown as the nice guy. Bryant probably knows this and this is what drives Bryant everyday. He gets up 5 a.m. every morning to workout. He wanted to be the best and now he is the best and he wants to maintain being the best. When Bryant started averaging 35 ppg they said he needs to pass more when he passed more they said he should score more. It was getting extremely unfair for Bryant. Last week Kobe proved people wrong once again. Even though it was silly saying Kobe could not win a title without Shaq he still got that monkey off of his back. Shaq would never have a ring without Kobe or D-Wade and all the haters know this but it was just the only thing they had left against Bryant.
Last week when Bryant won this there was all this talk of him having put a stamp on his legacy because he got his fourth. This sounds crazy but there probably some people saying this to make Bryant's career before his fourth ring look like it was not that legendary. Are you kidding me? The mans legacy was well sealed before the fourth title. He had done it all before this. He had three rings. 2007-2008 MVP (should have had three), you can easily say Nash's in 06 is his and Dirks in 07 is his as well and you can say he deserved it in 2003 as well. But we know Bryant is hated so there is a lot of politics involved when he got a couple of MVP's taken away from him. The league did not want a young cocky kid who was accused of sexual assault winning MVP's at that time. He has two scoring titles, 11-time All Star, three-time All Star Game MVP. He averaged 35.4 ppg!! and got the Lakers a seventh seed in the playoffs. That Lakers team had no talent on it and there was only about two other players I could think of that could get that team in to the playoffs those years. He almost eliminated the Suns by himself as well. Seven-time All-NBA first team, two-time All-NBA Second Team, two-time All-NBA third team, seven-time All-Defensive first team, two-time All-Defensive second team. Bryants individual performances before his fourth ring were unhuman. 81 points!, 62 points in three quarters, four 50 point games in a row. Twenty-seven 40+point games in a season. He has five 60 point games which is tied with Jordan.
Despite all this there were people out there who thought his legacy was sealed just because of this tile and Finals MVP. Kobe's legacy was well sealed before this fourth ring and Finals MVP and by doing this he has entered him self into the top 10 ever category but don't expect anyone in the media or on TV to talk about him being in the top 10 ever category. They still hate saying good things about the so called young immature, arrogant, selfish and cocky kid.
Oh yeah and LeBron. He has a long way to go. He may have won MVP this year but Bryant and Wade could have easily taken it especially Bryant. Kobe made it clear he is all about the Championship he has done everything LeBron is trying to accomplish and at the end of the day LeBron got the MVP and Kobe really didn't care if he got it or not he did his usual 27 ppg thing and ended up with what James wanted the most which was the Championship and the Finals MVP. LeBron will never learn how to win until he learns how to loose you never saw Melo walk off without shaking hands or Dwight or any other player.
