Sharks Seeing Stars, May Fall

Is it unprecedented for a coach to be fired during the playoffs?  Even Lou Lameriello has never done that, but wouldn't that send a message?

Ron Wilson is being out-coached for the second consecutive series--let me count the ways (appropriately nine of them, as in the number of perennial Shark-killer Mike Modano): 

1. There are prolonged periods when Team Teal cannot even get the puck out of the zone, and that sustained pressure gives momentum to Dallas and wears down the team.  The effort in these situations can only be described as chaotic: guys out of position for or unaware of loose pucks, misfired chances at open teammates and times when it just needs to be poked in the right direction.  Since this is a frequent occurrence, how about doing some drills?
2. Another reason the Sharks can only kill a penalty when the Stars already have a three goal lead and (showing class) do not even attempt to score is they are not blocking shots.  Even if you assert that Christian Ehrhoff should not have been called for that penalty that led to Modano's winning goal, what do you expect to happen when you put a hand on another guy's back and there has not been one opponent power play all night?
3. If San Jose is a favourite and not getting the calls (I would argue that this has not been an issue this round), does that not reflect on the coach's inability to work the officials as well as his counterpart?
4. The Sharks are routinely turning the puck over by not moving it out of the zone into a safe space, but trying to pass it through the opposition or hold it to look for a potential breakout.  In game seven against the Flames, it looked like they had solved Calgary's forecheck.  Dallas is not as aggressive in pressuring the defensemen, but the problem has reappeared as the Stars taking away lanes for advancing the puck.
5. Players are falling to the ice.  How is this a coaching issue?  This is the best skating team in the West and possibly the world; they are they losing their feet because they are not moving them or they are trying to make the great move.  Why can I see that and Wilson cannot?
6. The Sharks power play is still ineffective, and once again they are not getting enough traffic in front of Marty Turco.  Their defensemen also are not passing and shooting pucks wide to avoid blocks so they can get to the sticks of their forwards for shots at an out-of-position Turco.  Every other team knows to do this except the bunch led by Wilson.
7. Twice the Sharks killed their own odd-man rush because they looked for the pretty centering pass rather than get the shot on goal.  Wayne Gretzky famously said "100 percent of the shots you don't take don't go in."  Shoot the damn puck--maybe you can get lucky or get a rebound opportunity!
8. They failed to show up for about two of the seven games against Calgary: five minutes of game one, 55 minutes of game three, and all of game six.  How does a coach not have his team ready?  That may not be the problem this series, but it is not a reflection of good coaching that it happened at all.  And it is now the fourth season in a row it has been an issue at some point.
9. Nabokov was stellar in two games so far this post-season, but overall his numbers have not been very good.  Part of the reason for this is the aforementioned turnovers, but I contend that part of it is how much Wilson overplayed his netminder during the regular season.

Eight of the nine points above relate to fundamentals.  In the playoffs, you have to make the game simple because the team on the other side will burn you if you make a mistake. 

It may be that Wilson is telling his team these things, but then they are tuning him out.  I doubt they would tune general manger Doug Wilson out, since he will decide how many of them get to come back. 

It's time to make the change.
