You can let adversity bring you down, or you can man up and take a celebrity sports reporter to prom.

Jack Jablonski chose the latter path, and so far it’s working out just fine.

Update: Saturday, April 26 at 5:40 p.m. ET

Prom has finally arrived for Jablonski, and true to her word, Michelle Beadle showed up to accompany the high schooler to the dance:

--End of Update--

His life took an unexpected turn in 2011 when a nasty check into the boards during a high school hockey game left him paralyzed from the chest down.

Instead of lingering on his condition and forgetting sports altogether, the Benilde-St. Margaret’s School student has assumed the role of co-host on Hockey Night in Minnesota—a radio talk show on "105 The Ticket."

Jablonski’s work includes interviewing athletes, journalists and other industry professionals. While the conversation typically sticks to sports, the young man seized an opportunity to surprise one of his guests with an unexpected invitation.

The guest in this case was ESPN's SportsNation host Michelle Beadle, whom Jablonski has had a crush on for some time.

Beadle went on Hockey Night in Minnesota on Wednesday, and he quickly offered a surprise invitation.

According to Larry Brown of LarryBrownSports.com, Jablonski asked the ESPN personality to his upcoming prom.

“I’d formally like to invite you to my prom,” Jablonski said.

Beadle responded with a gasp.

“Get out!” Beadle exclaimed. “Seriously, I would love it...can I wear like an ‘80s dress to the prom?”

“You can wear whatever you want,” Jablonski said.

And that, my friends, is how you seize the carp.

Beadle corresponded later with Larry Brown about her upcoming date with Jablonski:

I know that he’s a badass and someone I look up to immensely. I was shocked when he asked today. And I adore him for doing it live on the radio. I’m honored to squeeze my 38 year old behind into a formal gown for a great night!

Yep, it appears Beadle will follow through with her commitment. We can only expect Jablonski to wear an appropriately fashionable tuxedo. He has two options.

Be on the lookout for news from their night out. Given his penchant for daring surprises, Jablonski will probably pick her up in a limo with Reggie Watts spinning Alphaville songs in the back.
