The 6'0", 196-pound standout had offers from schools such as Auburn, Louisville, Missouri, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Penn State and Stanford, and just as his recruitment was heating up, Edwards was ready to end it.
I have known for a while that I was going to commit to Ohio State. They have been wanting me to commit since the day they offered me, and I just have been talking to Coach (Tim) Hinton and Coach (Chris) Ash, and they loved me. Ohio State is the place for me, so I went all-in and committed.
Edwards, ranked the No. 20 safety in the country and the No. 43 overall prospect in Florida, becomes the third member of the 2015 class, joining 4-star cornerbacks Eric Glover-Williams and Jamel Dean. Meyer is clearly making an effort to stock up on talented defensive backs, which is exactly what he's getting with his latest commitment.
Edwards is one of the hardest-hitting safeties in the country, and at 6'0", he's a rangy athlete who makes outstanding plays in the back end of the defense. He closes fast, has good instincts and is fearless in run support.
Edwards' commitment could be the gift that keeps on giving for the Buckeyes.
The Jacksonville Trinity Christian football team, winners of back-to-back state titles, according to Chris Hays of The Orlando Sentinel, is loaded with elite prospects. Along with Edwards, Trinity is home to 5-star cornerback Kevin Toliver ll and 5-star linebacker Jeffery Holland, both of whom have offers from the Buckeyes.
Edwards has no interest in exploring any other schools, but rather, he wants to recruit his teammates to the Buckeyes.
"No sir, there will be no other visits," Edwards told Jeremy Birmingham of Eleven Warriors. "I will be trying to get my teammates to come with me, though."
If Edwards is successful in bringing either or both of his 5-star teammates to Columbus, he could end up being one of the most important prospects in Ohio State's 2015 class.
If he can't, though, Meyer will just have to settle for getting one of the most talented safeties in the country.
