Urijah Faber-Mike Brown: I Need More

Jesse MotiffJun 8, 2009

I knew going into their fight last night that Mike Brown and Urijah Faber would have a great bout. I wasn't sure how long it would last, but I knew it would be exciting and produce unforgettable memories.

I was not disappointed with the fight that unfolded for the next 25 minutes. Brown and Faber went toe-to-toe in a fight that won't soon be forgotten by those that witnessed mixed martial arts at its finest.

It was apparent early in the second round that something was wrong with Faber. He wasn't using his right hand as a weapon anymore, and eventually it was revealed that he had broken the hand in the first round.

That means Faber fought for over 20 minutes injured and without full use of all his weapons. Simply put, Urijah Faber is a warrior in every sense of the word inside the cage. The heart and desire it takes to overcome that type of an injury against someone as talented as Mike Brown is truly special.

Faber wasn't at full capacity but he never let up on Brown. He began to throw elbows that landed with great frequency, and he was giving Brown all he could handle.

To Mike Brown's credit, he knew of Faber's injury but didn't just rush in to try and end the fight. He stayed within his game plan and imposed his will on Faber throughout the fight.

Faber came up short in his quest to recapture the Featherweight title, but there is no shame in losing when you fight with the passion and heart that Faber did. You can bet that when his hand heals, Faber will be back in the cage competing at the highest level again.

Equally as admirable was Mike Brown proving once again why he is one of the best fighters in the world. Brown continues to show his toughness, both mentally and physically.

Faber will be out of the title hunt for awhile now with the injured hand.

Brown will likely face Jose Aldo who destroyed Cub Swanson in only eight seconds. Aldo landed the knee shot heard around the world to announce his arrival into the mainstream.

Brown will have his hands full with the dangerous Aldo. Aldo is one of the most aggressive fighters in the world, but that will leave him open to Brown's counter-attack. I think Brown will pull out that victory but it should be a war.

Hopefully that will lead to yet another Brown versus Faber fight. Their fights are the very best of fighting in the world right now. Their third fight would make a great main event for WEC's first pay-per-view. As far as I'm concerned, these two could fight each other every fight for the rest of each of their careers and that would be amazing.

Regardless of the next time these two meet, their second fight will go down as a classic and is another step in showing the greatness of mixed martial arts.
