Your eyes have not deceived you—San Francisco Giants All-Star closer Sergio Romo will be handling Twitter duties during a nationally televised game between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night.
The Warriors broke the news, appropriately enough, via their official Twitter account.
According to the team’s website, Romo will participate in a Twitter takeover during the second quarter of the game. It’s all part of a season-long cross-promotional effort that features players from major Bay Area sports teams lending their unique perspectives to sporting events:
Earlier this season, San Francisco 49ers All-Pro left tackle Joe Staley participated in the Warriors first Twitter Takeover during the first quarter of the team’s preseason game on October 7 against the Sacramento Kings. On August 25, 2013, Warriors forward Andre Iguodala and supermodel/actress Marisa Miller hosted a dual Twitter Takeover of the San Francisco 49ers official Twitter account during the team’s Sunday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Teams involved in the Warriors’ Twitter reach-out include the Oakland Athletics, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco Giants and San Jose Sharks.
A native of California, Romo was drafted by the Giants in 2005 and is a two-time World Series Champion, in 2010 and 2012. During the 2012 World Series, he recorded three saves, helping the Giants win the title.
Romo is no stranger to the world of Twitter—his @SergioRomo54 bio lists him as a "reliever of all that is dull and boring in life!"
Thursday night’s matchup between the two Pacific Division rivals will be broadcast by TNT from Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA. Romo will offer his insight and will interact with fans who tweet or reply to the team’s @warriors Twitter account.
