We all know what happened, we know the situation.

Game three of the Eastern Conference Quarter Finals. The Rangers are on a five on three powerplay. Sean Avery hates Martin Brodeur. Martin Brodeur hates Sean Avery. There they are, face to face, literally.

While forwards try to screen the goal tender's vision by standing in front, Avery did something that no one in the NHL had ever done before; Avery stood facing towards the goalie, Martin Brodeur, while waving his arms and stick in the air in front of his face. While no penalty was called on the play (only a warning issued by the referee), the Rangers went on to score a goal, by the man in question, Sean Avery.

Later that night, no matter which player on either team was being interviewed, one of the questions asked was "What did you think of that Sean Avery play?" and most players, Devils or Rangers, noted that it was creative and something they had never seen before.

The NHL decided the next day to add a new rule, or interpretation, of the goal tender interference rule, making it the first time in NHL history that a rule change was made overnight and most literally, 'On the Fly'.

You would think that by not condoning the actions performed by Avery that the NHL would be angered by his antics and want nothing to do with them, THINK AGAIN.

The NHL has decided to market his antics in the form of an officially licensed t-shirt. According to an inside source, also given to the New York Post, the NHL approved the design after it was put forward to them. The t-shirt will be labeled "Avery Rule No. 16" while being placed atop a shirt in Ranger blue coloring.

How will people respond to this? I for one believe it will be an instant money maker (Sean Avery himself must have thought so because he had to grant permission). Even though this makes the head office of the NHL seem like a bunch of hypocrites, it will also make them a boat load of money, something that they are all about these days...

How do the bleacher creatures feel about this?
