Black and Gold 2009 Draft Class Bio: Malcolm Jenkins

This article is the last in a four-article series which will profile each of the picks in the New Orleans Saints 2009 draft class.

The last time that Malcolm Jenkins played in the Louisiana Superdome was in the BCS National Championship, when the Ohio State Buckeyes played the LSU Tigers.

Now, Jenkins will play half of each season's game there after being drafted by the New Orleans Saints with the 14th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

It wasn't really a surprise when the Saints made the pick; mock drafts and football analysts had been predicting the move for a very long time.

Jenkins was born on December 20, 1987, in Piscataway Township, New Jersey.

He attended high school at Piscataway Township High School and played both wide receiver and defensive back as well as competing on the school's track team.

While attending college at Ohio State, Jenkins was named a first team All-American in his junior year. In his senior year, he won the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation's top defensive back.

While with the Buckeyes, Jenkins appeared in two BCS National Championship games, the first against Florida and the second against LSU. The Buckeyes lost both games with the latter taking place in the Louisiana Superdome in 2007.

In his four-year Ohio State career, he recorded 92 total tackles and 11 interceptions with most of his playing time coming in his junior and senior years.

After being drafted by a team needing some serious help in the secondary, Jenkins is expected to be an immediate contributor at cornerback after the team released starting corner Mike McKenzie earlier this year.

Some experts are also saying that Jenkins may eventually make his way over to the safety position.

Either way, Jenkins appears to be an excellent pick by the Black and Gold.
