NFL Draft Challenge: Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to plug the holes so many opposing teams found last season.  With the fifth pick their options are numerous. 

The offensive and defensive lines could stand to be upgraded, especially with talks of trading Jared Allen. The quarterback is still a question mark.  Cornerback was also a problematic position last season.

Looking into my crystal ball I see the Chiefs in a cloudy mist.  Hopefully Stephen King's monsters will not suddenly fly out and disembowel us all. 

Fox Sports and MSN's Peter Schrager and Scout.com's Chris Steuber agree that Chris Long and Jake Long will be gone before the Chiefs' pick.  Darren McFadden doesn't seem to fit a need for the Chiefs since Larry Johnson will be back and presumably healthy. 

Will the Chiefs attempt to help LJ by drafting Ryan Clady or Chris Williams?  If the Chiefs decide to spend their pick on the O-Line let us enter the world of Mr King.  Carl Peterson boards his flight from Kansas City to New York and the Langoliers just happen to divert him into the Appalachian Mountains.  Sadly, Carl will not be there to pick. 

The Chiefs' pick is now firmly in the hands of Clark Hunt and Herm Edwards.  They confer during the 10 minutes allotted for the first round pick.  They decide to trade out of their position.  The phones ring furiously over the next several minutes and a deal that had been in the works to trade Jared Allen to the Vikings falls through. 

However, a deal is struck with the Ravens.  The Ravens and Chiefs trade draft positions with the Chiefs receiving the second round pick of the Ravens for this year and next.  Baltimore, now on the spot, swiftly selects Matt Ryan to be the future face of the Ravens.  The Chiefs watch as the Jets and Patriots make their selections and then the Chiefs select Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.  F

lash forward into the second round and the Chiefs find Brian Brohm and Lawrence Jackson available.  With the Carl Peterson, The Walkin' Dude, era behind them the Chiefs begin their search for a new GM, their Gunslinger and a fresh new way for the Chiefs to build a team with a championship and postseason success in mind.
