Time to Meditate: Best Player to Grace the Game

Salaar ShamsiApr 20, 2008

The Game is known as football much to the disgust of Americans who call it "Soccer."

As the saying goes "the players change but the game remains the same." Football like other sports has seen many great players grace the game.

Many become popular and live the life of luxury and glamour like David Beckham and others live in their own shadow like Teddy Sheringham.

The game has evolved, it has gone through many eras.

Greatness, they say is not always judged by the number of trophies in the cabinet it is also sometimes judged by the number of hearts that have been won.Ā

When you start thinking of the best players many names sink into your head.

Pele! Maradona! Johan Crujff! Hagi! Abedi Pele! Zico! Michel Platini! Van Basten! Beckenbauer! Puskas! Charlton! Keegan! Rijkaard! Best! Garincha!

All of the players above are great servants of the game and belong to the first era.

Moving onto the second era. More Prominent names flow into your head.Cantona! Maldini! Zidane! Nedved! Deschamps! Beckham! Keane! Raul! Figo! Rui Costa! Totti! Del Piero! Shevchenko! Henry! Giggs! Laudrup! Gerrard! Riquelme!

They are all well known because they won the hearts of fans, they did something great.

The youngest era is most popular amongst our youth. Cristiano Ronaldo! Messi! Ronaldinho! Rooney! Kaka! Fabregas! Nasri! Tevez! Torres! Robinho! Huntelaar!Ā  fall into that list.

The "Galacticos" are pictured above. They personified greatness.

Ronaldo, Figo, Beckham, Raul and Zidane are all household names and why shouldn't they be?

Coming back to my target of choosing the best player ever. I think it has to be Zizou!

Zinedine Zidane is my pick of the lot because he influenced the era before him and after him.

Who cares about that headbutt? He did what he did and nothing can change what he did on the pitch.
