Maple Leafs Notes: Leafs Lead Brunnstrom Race, Draft on Tap
Brunnstrom Leaning Toward Toronto?
For those who haven't been following the Fabian Brunnstrom saga, let me get you up to speed. Brunnstrom is a late bloomer. He was featured in an article in the Hockey News earlier this season, and from there things snowballed considerably.
Brunnstrom is a 23 year old Swedish forward who has been absolutely tearing up the Swedish Elitserien with Farjestads. He is a 6'1" forward, weighing just over 200 pounds. Brunnstrom is said to have explosive speed, and great hands.

Earlier this week it was reported that Vancouver was leading the way. However, with the firing of then GM Dave Nonis, the Maple Leafs have apparently shifted to the front of the pack. Detroit is said to be one of the other teams involved, but Brunnstrom feels reluctant to go there because of their depth.
It is believed that Brunnstrom will be seeking a deal of 2 Million, plus bonuses. He is expected to make his decision within the next few weeks.

More Overseas Talent On Leafs Radar?
Aside from the highly touted Brunnstrom, who is being compared to Marian Hossa, there are two other players overseas that the Maple Leafs appear to have some interest in, depending on who you believe.
Ville Leino is another late bloomer, lile Brunnstrom. He is currently playing for the Finnish team Jokerit in the SM-Liiga. This past season, Leino led his team in scoring, tallying 28 goals, and 77 points in just 55 games.
According to his agent he is likely going to sign with an NHL team this summer, with the Maple Leafs apparently showing interest. Leino will represent Finland at this year's World Hockey Championship.
Who Will The Leafs Draft?
As all of you know, as big of a fan I am of the on-ice product, I am a roster movement geek. So, as you could imagine, I couldn't be more excited right now. Not only am I enjoying a fantastic entertaining NHL post season, but the NHL draft is also on its way.
Of course with the Maple Leafs missing the playoffs, we are already aware of what spot they will pick, 7th overall, in the first round.
Alot has been made of who the Maple Leafs will draft. Personally I agree with a fellow writer on the site, and I believe that the Maple Leafs should draft Luke Schenn 7th overall.
During the World Juniors I was almot salivating over Schenn who is a big body that loves to throw hits, block shots, and has a decent shot from the point.
Nikita Filatov would be a tremendous talent, but the Russian transfer agreement is too sketchy at the moment. Boedker would also be a great asset to the team, but with their lack of toughness, the Leafs could really use a guy like Schenn.
Toronto Marlies Update
The Toronto Marlies have begun their quest for the Calder Cup, drawing San Antonio (the Phoenix Coyotes AHL Affiliate.) The Marlies and the Rampage are tied 1-1 in the best of seven series.
Maple Leafs regulars Kris Newbury and Jiri Tlusty are in the lineup for the Marlies, while Hobey Baker finalist Kevin Porter, a highly touted offensive weapon who will join Meuller, Hanzel and a list of others in Phoenix, is suiting up for San Antonio.
That's Leafs Notes for today, Saturday April 19th. Be on the Lookout for a new report this Tuesday.
