Week 12 is such a watered-down week of college football as far as marquee matchups are concerned. There isn't an Alabama-LSU, Oregon-Stanford or Georgia-Clemson-type game like we've all been spoiled with in the past.
The limited options have forced the College GameDay crew to pack their bags for a trip out west to L.A. Memorial Coliseum.
It's not the sexiest matchup in the world, as USC isn't even a ranked team. However, this game could be quite entertaining with everything that's on the line.
The Trojans have won three games in a row and are finally beginning to play like a quality football team under interim head coach Ed Orgeron. This is still a solid team defensively, and the offense is beginning to iron out the wrinkles from the beginning of the season.
As for the Cardinal, well, they just knocked off Oregon and could use a win to remain in the national championship picture.
If USC needed any more motivation to give an honest effort in this game, it does still have a fair shot to win the Pac-12 South. The Trojans still play UCLA at the end of the year, and Arizona State has a couple of tough conference games ahead (Oregon State, UCLA, Arizona) that could allow college football's powerhouse to sneak into the big game.
There's a lot of stake for both teams, which is all you can ask for from a contest at the end of the season. It's also worth mentioning that the last three meetings have been decided by single digits.
Other games that were likely considered by Lee Corso and Co. include Florida-South Carolina, Michigan State-Nebraska, Georgia-Auburn and Texas Tech-Baylor.
Hey, I told you it was slim pickings next week.
Make sure to catch the game Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
