Ottawa Senators: Is It Time for a Cabinet Shuffle?

What has become a regular occurrence for the Ottawa Senators, the post season could very well be over and Lord Stanley's Cup will not be sipped from, in Canada's capital.

Barring an almost impossible feat of 4 straight wins, the Sens could be out tonight,  eliminated by the very team they knocked out in last years playoffs the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Is it time for change in Ottawa?

Possibly a cabinet shuffle?

In Canada elections are held every 4 years, Provincial and Federal.

I think Ottawa is due for a major shakeup possibly a trade involving Daniel Alfredsson.

Although Ottawa's core group of players are some of the youngest and brightest there are a few concerns on the blueline, wing, and the net.

I've always liked the acquisition of left winger Dany Heatley and the recent addition of left winger Cory Stillman beyond that I don't see much in the way of depth.

As for the blueline the Sens have to miss big body Zdeno Chara now with the Boston Bruins.

The blueline needs a little depth and experience Wade Redden and Chris Philips can't carry the load all year.

As for the goaltending if the Sens can get Ray Emery clicking, with a backup like Martin Gerber this position should be solid (that's a big if).

I know Ottawa ran into some bad injuries to key players such as Captain and right winger Daniel Alfredsson, centers Mike Fisher, and Chris Kelly.

But I wonder if fans are starting to feel cursed?

One year your team makes it to the Stanley Cup Finals only to fall short and the next year your team can't handle a very young and determined Pittsburgh squad.

Well the Sens can't blame the Toronto Maple Leafs for this one.

I bet there will be alot of talk of a regime change in Ottawa and there should be most teams are envious of all the talent on this team and the success the organization has had.

10 straight playoff berths, a 2003 Presidents Trophy and a Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2007 is something to be proud of.

I feel this is a group of players who are talented, but not well coached and not disciplined enough to win a Stanley Cup and may have already past their peak.

Maybe a fiery, consistant coach is the answer maybe not.

The Pittsburgh Penguins remind me of how a great team can be built through smart trades and drafting a way in which the Senators once mastered to perfection but not a Stanley Cup.
