Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of August 19
Will Cristiano Ronaldo's future plans become clear as we head toward the conclusion of this summer's transfer window?
The Portuguese star, who has long been linked with a return to Manchester United, continues to grab headlines. Bleacher Report has covered the saga across the preseason months here and here, but the most important days lie ahead.
Can Real Madrid lure Ronaldo into a new contract before the window shuts? Read the latest news and rumours here.
Ronaldo Opens La Liga Campaign with Poor Performance Against Real Betis
1 of 3The talking stopped for 90 minutes on August 18, as Real Madrid welcomed Real Betis to the Bernabeu for their opening La Liga clash of the 2013-14 season.
Ronaldo played poorly throughout. Goals from Karim Benzema and Isco saw Carlo Ancelotti's men win 2-1, but the former Manchester United man wasn't firing impressively.
As reported by WhoScored.com, he achieved a pass-accuracy rating of only 78.1 percent, completed just one of four dribbles and failed to net with 11 shots.
Is his mind elsewhere?
Ronaldo Not Worried by Real Madrid Renewal
2 of 3Ronaldo has remained calm throughout the summer.
Nothing has changed across the last week, as Real Madrid's star man indicated he isn't desperate to quickly renew his deal to stay at the Bernabeu.
The Portuguese player spoke to AS, as reported by Stefan Coerts of Goal.com:
"My contract renewal is not something that worries me at this point. I still have a few years to go on my current deal.
"
These things develop naturally and sooner or later there will be clarity.
Things are going well and my contract situation is not a problem for me. I am happy with the way things are going. It's not as if the world is coming to an end.
While Ronaldo looks to be leaving his options open, perhaps the length of his new contract will be pivotal in this one. Despite John Drayton of the Daily Mail reporting Florentino Perez's comments that suggest Ronaldo will end his career in Madrid, the player himself hasn't said anything so emphatic.
Ronaldo Doesn't Have a Rivalry with Messi but Could Soon Share One with Bale
3 of 3The ongoing competition between Ronaldo and Lionel Messi should be considered a friendly one.
As reported by Andrew Wychrij of Goal.com, Messi spoke to Maxim about the heated rivalry that never was: "There is no rivalry [with Ronaldo] at all. He's a good person and can change any game. He does his thing and I'm just focused on succeeding with Barcelona."
If Martin Del Palacio Langer of the Evening Standard is to be believed, Ronaldo feels unsettled about the prospect of Real Madrid signing Gareth Bale.
