U-19 Tri-Nation Tournament 2013: Three Future Stars to Watch out for

Joe StrangeJun 8, 2018

Tuesday sees England face Pakistan in the U-19 Tri-Nation Tournament at London Road cricket ground in Sleaford, Lincolnshire.

The match is the second of the tournament after Pakistan faced the third country involved, Bangladesh, at the Haslegrave Ground in Loughborough yesterday.

With some of the world's best young players on show, the competition promises to serve up some eye-catching cricket to supplement the current Ashes fever in the UK.

All three teams will play each other twice before the final at Trent Bridge on August 19.

Here we pick three future stars to keep an eye on during the tournament.

Matthew Fisher (England)

At just 15-years-old, Matthew Fisher is the youngest member of England's U-19 Tri-Nation tournament squad.

He made history back in June by becoming the youngest post-war cricketer to appear in a competitive county match when he took on Leicestershire for Yorkshire.

During his appearance he took the wicket of Shiv Thakor and ended with one for 40 from seven overs. He also managed 10 runs.

Although his side lost the match, Fisher impressed with a mature performance and was selected for the young England squad last month.

The right-arm, fast-medium bowler will be hoping to get another chance to impress at international level in the tournament.

Sami Aslam (Pakistan)

Born in Lahore in 1995, Sami Aslam is already being talked about as a future opening batsman for his country's senior side.

The 17-year-old has impressed hugely during his brief career so far and is already the captain of the U-19 side.

The youngster, who currently plays his club cricket for the senior Lahore Eagles side, starred in his country's U-19 Asia Cup victory last summer.

A left-handed batsman, Aslam has already recorded a number of centuries during his youth career and is sure to play a vital part in any success Pakistan have during the Tri-Nation tournament.

Abu Haider (Bangladesh)

One of the most experienced players in the entire Bangladesh squad, Abu Haider will be expected to provide leadership to the younger players picked for the tournament.

Although still only 17-years-old, the left-arm pace-bowler is the only player with first-class experience under his belt.

He took nine wickets in an Asian Cricket Council Cup match against Qatar U-19s last year but was unable to find his form at the World Cup in Australia, ending the tournament wicketless.

He will be looking to return to his best form while in England and attract the attention of more senior coaches.
