NBA MVP: Chris Paul Buzz Sourced to Some DUMB Bees—Go Kobe

WalkerApr 10, 2008

Ahhhh but we love the hype. Don't we? I mean, is there anything more satisfying than attaching yourself as firmly as possible to the latest popular trend and riding it as far as it goes? I guess not. Clearly the genius who wrote that "Kobe Losing the MVP to Paul?" piece doesn't think so as he makes abundantly clear in his fanboy article concerning the MVP race. I'm referring of course to the article written by "rob" which somehow rocketed to the #1 most viewed on this site a few days ago.Ā

Come on people, I really was hoping for more from you. I've been a fan of this site for a while and hadn't felt the need to put finger to keyboard until now when presented with an article in such desperate need of rebuttal.

It's so tempting to jump on the bandwagon, I get it, I mean I myself felt the inclination to climb aboard after reading the above mentioned article. I mean hell, Paul is a phenomenal young player, dazzling to watch, great stats and perhaps most importantly has MANY GOOD YEARS left in him. I think this is what makes him so appealing, people feel like they are investing in the future of the league by celebrating him over a more mature player like Kobe. For now however, I say weĀ  focus on the Kobe Bryant right in front of us.Ā  I like to call him "Kobe Bryant". Sort of a nickname.

Most important is the degree to which the players influence the outcome of the games. By their presence, energy, drive, defensive draw and yes, by their 28.7 points per MF'ing game. Moreover anyone who has followed Kobe's career knows that his performance will often be determined by the needs of the team in that particular game. If you are down to the wire in the finals and you need 50 points from Kobe? Guess what? you'll probably get them. And Paul? One Player One Shot, with the game on the line, ask yourself ,who you would rather have taking that shot? Chris Paul or Kobe Bryant?

Yeah. Me too.

Ā That my friends is the very definition of an MVP, and Bryant is still leaps and bounds ahead of Paul in all the ways that truly matter in the game of basketball. You can disagree obviously but in that case, you really do deserve to be punched in the jejunum. Hard. Ā

Lastly,The Laker's record has been peppered lately with some ignoble losses. It must be acknowledged.Ā  Thing is, (and I know its the tightest conference race ever but...) SO WHAT? They have injuries out the ass and are going the distance in any case. I'll bet you a nipple that they at least reach the finals. I'll bet you half of the other one that they win. There's always the Spurs though, so on the off chance the lakers go down I'll have at least half a nipple. Worst case scenario.
