Manchester United All the Way

Ziad AchkarApr 10, 2008

Manchester United booked their place in the semi finals of the Champions League by beating Roma last night 1-0 at Old Trafford. Tevez scored the goal that was set up by a Hargreaves cross from the right hand side.

United won 3-0 on aggregate.

They will face Barcelona, who have beaten Schalke 1-0 on the away and return leg, But the Spanish side doesn't look as strong as it used too with Messi injured and Ronaldinho out for the rest of the season.

It doesn't look good for the Spanish team, and to add to their misery they will have to play the first leg of the semis without their captain and defender Puyol who picked up a second yellow card.

Manchester United have hit their peak, without the talented Rooney and Ronaldo who were rested on the bench, and with a formation which included several changes. United didn't look any less strong against Roma, they created chance after chance with Hargreaves and Park opening the Romans defense wide.

Roma had a good chance to get back in the tie when they were awarded a controversial penalty kick. De Rossi stepped up to take the shot only to fire it way high.

Last night’s game saw Mikael Silvestre back in the starting line up after missing seven months due to a knee injury. Rio Ferdinand featured too and played a full 90 minutes. United were afraid the injury that prevented him to continue the Middlesbrough game would be long term, but the MRI showed nothing to worry about

With 10 minutes left in the game, Gary Neville made his long awaited return to the United squad, 13 months after suffering an ankle injury. His comeback wasn't smooth as he picked up several other minor injuries which delayed his return.

So as it stands United have almost all their squad back. Vidic should be back in a week, Fletcher is out for the season, and Saha well you all know the story. United face Arsenal Sunday, a game that United need to win to put the pressure on Chelsea who play on Monday night.

United, however, seem to have the edge on Arsenal and personally I don't see them losing to Chelsea when the two sides meet on the 26th of April at Stamford Bridge.

Back to the Champions League, United will have the advantage of playing the second leg at home. With the injuries hitting Barcelona and with all the in-club problems they are having, United look to be set for the final.

They will meet the winner between Chelsea and Liverpool, and have a very big chance of winning it.

So with United's recent form who can disagree that they are going all the way to clinching the double, EPL And CL?
