Pre-season: Nemanja Vidic to miss start of Man Utd tour through injury

Christopher HeathmanJun 8, 2018

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic will miss the start of the club's pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia due to injury.

The Serbian centre-back is said to be suffering from a nerve problem called sciatica, and as a result could miss the entire tour. However, the club is hopeful Vidic could join up with the rest of the team later in the tour.

The source of the problem was originally thought to be a repeat of a knee injury, which has kept him from playing regularly over the course of the last two seasons. The 31-year-old is now in the final year of his contract and another serious injury may hamper his chances of being offered a one-year deal at some point during the season.

Man Utd published the official squad list on their brand new, and perhaps long overdue, official Twitter page. Wilfried Zaha has been included on David Moyes' squad, as has returning left-back Fabio after his stint with Queens Park Rangers.

Robin van Persie and recent European Championship U-21 winner David De Gea will both join the squad in Australia. Shinji Kagawa will meet up with the team in his home country of Japan.

Full squad list:
Goalkeepers: Anders Lindegaard, Ben Amos

Defenders: Rafael, Phil Jones, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Alex Büttner, Fabio, Michael Keane
