The Love-Hate Relationship of Manchester United

I have been a Manchester United fan since 1998, the rise of the club over the nineties has been like that of Genghis Khan in the 1200's.

As the number of trophies in its trophy cabinet increases, so does its fan base over the world.

But of late people who support Man Utd have been criticised of being glory hunters who do not know much about football, and it often turns out to be the other way round.

I agree that there are a lot of people out there who don't know a thing about football and support Man Utd only because it is so popular.

These "fans" of the club have hardly ever followed the club or hardly ever watch their matches but still identify themselves as red devils amongst social circles just because United win consistently.

Just the last week in a party that I attended, I met a person who proclaimed himself to be a die hard Man Utd fan but failed to identify Ryan Giggs, and above that he had the audacity to say that he had been following the club since the last 4 years...!!

Now that is what I call a glory hunter, a person who claims to support a club just because it wins and will happily change loyalties as and when circumstances change.

Due to these kinds of people genuine Man Utd fans are being victimised and criticised and branded as glory hunters.

Over the last few years teams such as Chelsea and Arsenal have also risen in terms of fan count and their fans find it very tempting and amusing to taunt genuine Man Utd fans and call them glory hunters... this is fast becoming a stereotype.

It often turns out that the person who labels others as glory hunters turns out to be one... I have known a person who follows Chelsea and is one of those guys who labels others as a glory hunter.

But sadly enough, that person could not point out as to who was the manager of Chelsea before Jose Mourinho... shameful for a "true blue."

Once again the hatred toward Man Utd fans is evident, and so are the claims of all red devils being glory hunters... there is no doubt that Man Utd is one of the most hated clubs in the world, probably the most.

But that dosen't mean that all Man Utd supporters are glory hunters, some are, most aren't.

Well, but as long as this club plays football like it has been in the past decades this love-hate relationship will continue.

Love us, or hate us... but you cant ignore us...
