Bellator Champ Ben Askren After UFC 158: 'I Am 100% Sure I Could Beat GSP'

John HeinisJun 8, 2018

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is under a little heat after fighting rival Nick Diaz for his sixth consecutive unanimous decision victory.

While "Rush" was in control for the overwhelming majority of the bout, at no point did it look like he was ready to finish the fight.

One fellow champion who was not impressed was Bellator 170-pound title holder Ben Askren. The decorated collegiate wrestler took to Twitter to voice his opinion after the UFC 158 headlining bout was over:

The "Funky" one, who just recently broke out of a streak of six unanimous decision wins himself, then made a very bold proclamation about a potential showdown with GSP.

To his credit, Askren is currently a perfect 11-0 as a professional mixed martial artist and is coming off an impressive TKO (doctor stoppage) victory over Karl Amoussou at Bellator 86 in January.

The Roufusport standout has also successfully defended his belt three times, dating back to Oct. 2011.

While Askren is no slouch, few would be picking him in a potential fight with "Rush."

St-Pierre is currently riding an 11-fight win streak where he defeated notables such as Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck and Carlos Condit.

GSP also holds the UFC record for most consecutive welterweight title defenses (eight) and is currently ranked No. 3 in the UFC's official pound-for-pound rankings

Would the former Olympic-level wrestler actually be able to hold his own against St-Pierre, or was his analysis after UFC 158 nothing more than wishful thinking?
