As first reported by Tim May of The Columbus Dispatch, linebacker Conner Crowell and offensive lineman Joey O'Conner have left Ohio State and will not rejoin the team in 2013.
An OSU spokesman confirmed for The Dispatch that linebacker Connor Crowell and OL Joey O'Connor no longer will be with the team.— Tim May (@TIM_MAYsports) January 23, 2013
Crowell, a former 3-star linebacker recruit from the class of 2011, wasn't medically cleared to rejoin the team after multiple injuries to his leg and ankle.
After redshirting as a freshman following a knee surgery last year, O'Conner will transfer to a college (yet to be announced) close to his home in Colorado. O'Conner was a former 4-star offensive guard who was committed to Penn State before the Sandusky scandal broke.
Ohio State released a statement regarding the two former Buckeyes:
Crowell, who has had two surgeries while at Ohio State for a previous injury that occurred while in high school, will not be medically cleared to play by the OSU medical staff. O'Connor, who red-shirted the 2012 season, has requested a transfer to be closer to home.
Both the offensive line and the linebacker position groups are rather shallow, so Meyer will look to plug the holes left by Crowell and O'Connor with prospects from his 2013 recruiting class.
