It's almost here. Wrestlemania XXV, the show of all shows.
Unfortunately, this year's card is not filling me with any excitement or anticipation.
Here are my picks for each match and my thoughts:
Tag Team Unification Match: The Miz and Morrison vs. Carlito and Primo Colon
I'm picking Miz and Morrison.
These two have been put on basically every show in some capacity, and to have them as the unified champs is the smart pick. The Colons just don't have any charisma and can't carry the rather \-weak tag team roster.
Miz and Morrison are their polar opposites and can put on a rivalry with any tag team. Plus, when they eventually break up it will make for good TV.
Intercontinental Title Match: JBL vs. Rey Mysterio
With Rey winning the last episode of RAW, JBL is totally winning this.
I still don't know why he has the title. I preferred CM Punk as champ because he can put on better quality matches with a variety of stars, and he and Rey had a very entertaining Armageddon match.
I like Rey and am pulling for him, but the WWE basically gave away who the winner on Monday.
Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy
The WWE completely dropped the ball with this storyline.
If anything, it should be the main showdown on Smackdown, yet it's treated like an afterthought. It was done basically to turn Matt heel and get him off ECW so Swagger and Bourne can shine.
It looks like the feud is ending with this match, and I'm going with Matt.
I think Jeff will be drafted to RAW. More importantly, he hasn't been interested in fighting his brother, so if he loses I don't think he'll really care.
25 Diva Battle Royal
Like I said in a previous article, I'm going with Maryse. As much as I'd like to go with a past Diva, the most obvious being Trish, I think a current girl should win.
The WWE needs to push one of them as the ultimate Diva, and Maryse seems to be high on a lot of fans' lists. It'd be cool for a surprise entrant to show up (Chyna anyone?), but I'll still go with Maryse.
I fear the swerve of Santino being officially in the match puts a negative light on the Divas roster, showing it takes a man for there to be interest in the match.
"Money in the Bank" Ladder Match
I'm going with Kane. With all the lack of focus on any of the world titles, Kane winning MITB and cashing it in at some point would be great.
I see him moving to Smackdown and putting on a feud with another giant for the title.
Although I'd rather see someone like Shelton Benjamin get the push, this is Kane's chance to get what may be his final title run, and it's a long time coming and very deserved.
This match however, could have really used Evan Bourne.
Legends vs. Jericho
I'm for the Legends. I have a feeling other Legends will get involved, as will Ric Flair and Mickey Rourke.
The WWE will most likely use the momentum from Stone Cold Steve Austin joining the Legends the night before during the Hall of Fame ceremony and have him beat up Jericho.
Hopefully, this will push Jericho back into the spotlight, he still needs to be on TV every week and on the mic.
Triple-Threat World Heavyweight Championship Match: Edge vs. John Cena vs. The Big Show
I'm pulling for Big Show over Edge and Cena.
Unlike some people, I've been a big fan of the love triangle as it's made for good TV, giving both Big Show and Edge a way of developing their characters more.
Cena is really an afterthought in the match and in recent weeks, Show has been pushed to look like the major threat.
I'd like to see Show get this and have Kane move to Smackdown and challenge him for the title.
Plus, I want to see what more can happen with the love triangle.
WWE Championship Match: Triple H vs. Randy Orton
This is the match I'm most looking forward to, and I'm going with Orton. He has become the true star of the WWE and has had some great character development.
Orton is the true future of the WWE, and having him go over Triple H is a smart choice. He's definitely becoming a Stone Cold-type heel, without the fan-favorite charisma.
With the new stipulations added, I'm sensing the McMahon turn, and I have a feeling it will be Stephanie. She is much more effective as a heel and having her turn on her husband would continue this story even further, adding a really cool dynamic.
"Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker
I'm in the middle with this one.
On one hand, I'm excited for these two longtime members of the WWE to finally have a match against one another at WrestleMania. On the other, there's no doubt in my mind that 'Taker is winning.
If HBK managed to do what no one has done and end 'Taker's streak, what comes next?
Does it do anything for HBK, other than give him bragging rights? No.
HBK isn't some up-and-comer like Evan Bourne, or some shining star like Randy Orton who could use the rub to set themselves up for the rest of their careers.
He and 'Taker are in the same boat as veterans with pretty much nothing else to do storyline-wise or career-wise. What they need is a roster switch for a little rejuvenation.
Plus, the WWE doesn't need the streak to end.
For a lot of fans, even casual ones, the streak is the one thing that has lasted over all of the ups and downs of the WWE, and it should never end.
The Undertaker should retire and go straight into the Hall of Fame with the streak intact, a streak that will never be repeated.
The match should have definitely been listed as the main event, but it will be entertaining none the less.
So, on paper, the card is nothing to be excited about. No ECW Championship match and no Evan Bourne makes me completely forget about Jack Swagger and ECW.
The Divas aren't having championship matches either, even though this is the first WrestleMania where there could have been two.
It will be an interesting show, to say the least.
