San Diego Chargers: General Manager Decision

Alex Ramirez@@alexramirez127Correspondent IJanuary 9, 2013

UPDATE: The San Diego Chargers have hired Tom Telesco as their new General Manager. Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune said that Telesco "blew Chargers away with knowledge of roster and ideas for fixing it." He also stated that Jimmy Raye did not lose the job, Tom Telesco simply won it.

Reports are saying that Dean Spanos and the San Diego Chargers will announce their new general manager today. They have already started their head-coaching search.

In recent weeks, director of player personnel Jimmy Raye has been the leading candidate to land the job. Many fans feel that a promotion within the franchise is not what this team needs. After scheduling various interviews with other general manager candidates, only one man seems to be Jimmy Raye's competition: Tom Telesco. Telesco is currently the Colts vice president of football operations.

Adam Schefter tweeted earlier this morning:

On the day the Chargers are expected to name their new GM, Colts VP of football operations Tom Telesco is back in San Diego.

Telesco being in San Diego hints at his hiring as the Chargers new GM. It may be a coincidence and they'll end up going with Jimmy Raye anways, but that seems unlikely.

Telesco was with the Indianapolis Colts for 15 years, but was just promoted to vice president of football operations last offseason. If he is indeed hired by the San Diego Chargers, Bruce Arians will jump straight to the top of likely coaching candidates. Arians is also a part of the Indianapolis Colts franchise and would be more than happy to join Telesco in San Diego.

Could the Chargers announce the GM and head coach today?
