When the Portuguese superstar starts bleeding, he just turns up the awesome.
On Sunday evening, Ronaldo and Real Madrid defeated Levante 2-1 in a Spanish La Liga match. The game was notable for the almost unplayable conditions on the waterlogged pitch—and also because of what happened to Ronaldo.
In the first half, Ronaldo took a vicious elbow to his eye. His eye!
Take that, Leo Messi. All he did this weekend was beat a record held by Pele (via The Guardian).
Ronaldo's goal can be seen here at 101 Great Goals. It's nothing special, except for the whole part about all the blood that was pouring out of his eye only a few moments earlier.
The injury itself appears in the video above. It's our Set Piece Video of the Day. Enjoy and admire the toughness of football's supposedly soft superstar.
But wait. There's more. Here's what Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho said about CR7 after the match, per RealMadrid.com:
In the first half he was unable to see properly with that eye, but during the break he couldn't see properly with either. So it was impossible for him to continue. When he gets to Madrid he’ll go to hospital to have the tests he needs.
He couldn't see with either eye!
Cristiano es una Barbie? No sir. This makes him at least a Ken Doll.
