As if a 1-8 record and complete humiliation wasn't evidence enough, a new article meticulously details the failed tenure of Jacksonville Jaguars' general manager Gene Smith.

Bill Barnwell of Grantland skewers virtually every personnel decision Smith has made since taking over four years ago.

Barnwell takes the notoriously awful decision to draft a punter in the third round as the centerpiece of failure for Smith, but he should have paid more attention to his now laughable move to trade up to select Blaine Gabbert.

Had he hit on the quarterback, the rest of the mistakes would likely not be so noticeable. The problem posed for anyone trying to defend Gabbert as "not the whole problem" is the fact that Smith drafted him.

Fans have tried to defend Gabbert while trashing Smith's other moves, but it's far more likely that a general manager with a track record of ineptitude made a mistake on his biggest draft pick than it is that he was wrong about everything but the quarterback.

Regardless of what you consider his biggest mistake, there seems to be little chance Smith stays around long enough to clean up the mess.
