Liverpool haven't been very active in this summer transfer window, but there are still a lot of rumours buzzing around the club.

Brendan Rodgers recently reassured the fans that the club is working on signing a couple more players before the season starts (via ESPN Soccernet):

There's a lot of great work going on, obviously with the board and Ian Ayre in particular doing a lot of work behind the scenes," Rodgers told the club's official website. "I've got regular contact going with our American owners and, in particular, Mike Gordon from Fenway Sports Group.

Is Daniel Agger set for a surprise exit? Is the Joe Allen deal done?

Read on and find out all the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumors.

Joe Allen

The Joe Allen saga apparently won't end until Liverpool get the Swansea midfielder.

The South Wales Evening Post revealed that Joe Allen is close to a Liverpool move after the midfielder agreed to personal terms with the Anfield club.

However, Swansea are yet to officially respond to Liverpool's £12.5 million plus a player—thought to be Jonjo Shelvey—on a season-long loan offer, and are holding out for a £15 million bid that would trigger Allen's release clause.

Meanwhile, Michael Laudrup, the Swansea manager, admitted he still didn't get the chance to talk with Allen (via South Wales Evening Post):

There’s no latest—he is with the GB team at the Olympics so I have not had the opportunity to talk to him since I arrived. Let’s see what happens—I can’t really tell you anything else right now.

It appears it's only a matter of time before Allen reunites with his former manager at Anfield.

Clint Dempsey

Clint Dempsey missed Fulham's Switzerland preseason tour as he tries to push through a move to Liverpool, Goal.com's exclusive sources have revealed.

Goal.com also understand that Dempsey told Martin Jol that he did not want to take part in the preseason trip. The American vowed to remain professional, and he will train with the youth team during Fulham's tour.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are still reluctant to match Fulham's asking price, and the deal might not be finalised before the deadline day on August 31.

Daniel Agger

After Daniel Agger missed Liverpool's first-leg Europa League qualifier against FC Gomel, his agent revealed his client's absence was not due to injury, fueling rumors that the Denmark international is on his way out from the Anfield club.

Per Steffensen, Agger's agent, was quoted (via Goal.com):

He is not injured in any way. Only the club and the manager can answer to why he is not in the squad.

However, Steffensen dismissed rumors that Agger had handed in a transfer request and revealed that Liverpool still haven't offered him a contract extension.

"But the reports of Agger handing in a transfer request are purely nonsense. He is very happy at Liverpool,” he added.

"We have not heard from Liverpool with regards to a contract extension."

Both Barcelona and Manchester City (The Guardian) are thought to be interested in signing the Denmark international.

With offers flying in from top clubs, and no contract extension at Anfield, could the Dane be tempted to leave the Reds?

Raheem Sterling

Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly (Daily Mail) keen on bringing Raheem Sterling to Tottenham Hotspur.

The youngster, who joined Liverpool from QPR, still hasn't settled into life in Liverpool and would reportedly welcome a return to London.

While Tottenham want Sterling on a permanent deal, QPR are thought to be interested in a season-long loan move for the 17-year-old.

The Reds certainly wouldn't want to lose their hottest academy prospect, and a loan deal with QPR appears more likely.

Yesterday, Sterling played a part in Liverpool's Europa League qualifier against FC Gomel.
