The female Michael Phelps has struck gold.
Missy Franklin, the 17-year-old teenage sensation, outreached the competition in the 100-meter backstroke on Day 3 of the Olympics to earn her first-ever Olympic gold medal.
This, on the heels of narrowly qualifying for the 200-meter freestyle just 20 minutes prior to her backstroke final race.
