Marie Muller: Luxembourg Flag Bearer Turns Heads During Opening Ceremony
Not much is ever expected of Luxembourg due to its miniscule population. Regardless, the Olympic committee wisely chose judoka Marie Muller as its flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony, and that created buzz.
Thousands of athletes march in the Parade of Nations, so it’s only natural for the audience to stay entertained by looking for the most attractive participant, and Muller just might take that title.
She is one of 10 athletes representing the tiny landlocked nation with a population of roughly 500,000 people. Luxembourg has won just two medals at the Summer Olympics.

The 26-year-old will be competing in the 52-kilogram weight class in the judo competition starting Sunday, July 29. The entire schedule for the games can be found at NBCOlympics.com.
Those who will be dreaming about the lovely and lethal martial artist would do better just to stay awake. Spectators will have to lose some sleep in order to watch her compete, as her tournament starts at 4:44 a.m. ET against Spain’s Ana Carrascosa.
She will need to win five fights to reach the gold medal match, which will be held at 11 a.m. on the same day.
Muller has likely had her moment in the spotlight already, as even she will not be able to make a single weight class in judo a marquee event.
That does not mean the brunette bombshell will be able to avoid attention. Her games end this weekend, and there will certainly be more than a few athletes around the Olympic village looking to spend time with her after her competitive duties are done.
