CHICAGO—Montee Ball didn't need to do much to get on everybody's mind coming into the first day of Big Ten Media Days on Thursday; before the proceedings started, Wisconsin announced on his behalf that his first name would be pronounced Mon-tay instead of the Mon-tee we're all used to.

But once that was all well and understood, Ball took the next step and stole the show with a dynamite purple ensemble. The Big Ten Network's Brent Yarina tweeted out a picture of Ball on Thursday morning:

Stellar, stellar work—and check the purple pocket square to boot.

We're here with golf shirts and jeans, by the way, so that's basically on the same plane sartorially as Ball, right? Right? Hello?

Player interviews are on Friday morning, so we'll see if any of the other 35 players rise to the challenge of meeting Ball's level of style. There is some room for improvement, after all; Ball's jacket was rather unspectacular, and his whole getup doesn't even incorporate school colors.

So, we're not demanding that Minnesota QB MarQueis Gray show up on Friday decked out head-to-toe in maroon and gold, but we are saying it would leave Ball's outfit in the dust. Why not get the 2012 Minnesota-Wisconsin rivalry kicked off—pardon the pun—in style?
