US Olympic Gymnastics Team 2012: Jordyn Wieber Is A Lock to Win All-Around Gold

When it comes to the sport of gymnastics, the all-around title is the highest honor any one individual can receive.

The best all-around gymnast is skilled in all four disciplines, not necessarily being the best in any one particular discipline, but being great in three or four of the disciplines.

And, in the London Olympics, that person will be U.S. gymnast Jordyn Wieber.

Wieber has shown how strong she is throughout her career in all four gymnastics events, although there have been meets where she's had her struggles. Who hasn't?

She has the potential to be dominant in any of the events, and has shown she can be at major competitions.

At last year's world championships, Wieber scored a 15.716 on the vault (first), 13.600 on uneven bars (12th), 15.266 on balance beam (first) and 14.800 on floor exercise (third) during the all-around portion of the competition.

During the U.S. Olympic Trials, the beam was her only weak event as she had scores above 15.350 in the prelims and finals in the other three events.

While Gabrielle Douglas took first and the automatic qualifying spot for the Olympics at the trials, I still saw a lot from Wieber that gives me confidence she'll win all-around gold in London.

Her experience at the world championships, coupled with the fact that she's been on the world's stage (except the Olympics) many times before, has prepared her for these Olympics.

She has consistently shown herself to be one of the best gymnasts in the world over the course of the last year, so there's no doubt the confidence is there.

And, while most will argue that saying an athlete is a lock to win a gold medal is like a death sentence, I think it fits perfectly in Wieber's case.

She's been the best in the world before, and she'll be the best in the world again.
