Matt Hardy Talks WWE Return, Extreme Rising and More on Ring Rust Radio

Jun 7, 2018

Former WWE and TNA superstar Matt Hardy is one of the most enigmatic wrestlers in the history of the business, and just like his brother, Jeff, he is as polarizing as he is decorated.

Hardy sat down with Ring Rust Radio to discuss his current work with Extreme Rising, his long WWE history, his checkered past and how the star is doing today.

For those fans that don’t like Hardy or his wrestling, this is a man that has been through it all and commands respect for what he has done for the business.

Whether or not you like the Matt Hardy character, you have to respect the man.

Extreme Rising

After Extreme Reunion fell flat, Shane Douglas and the rest of the ownership decided to address the issues head-on instead of trying to ignore them. One of their first moves was to bring in a veteran guy like Matt Hardy with a big name.

In the interview, Hardy describes how he is expecting animosity from the tough ECW-style crowds in both New York City and Philadelphia. Not only is he prepared for the reaction, he is looking forward to playing off of it and turning his appearances into something special.

While many fans can question Hardy’s former lifestyle out of the ring, there is no denying that he is one of the hardest working guys between the ropes. If he brings his best effort, these crowds will love him.

All it takes is one twist of fate and the crowd is his.

Return to a Major Federation

As great as working with an up-and-coming promotion such as Extreme Rising is for Hardy, there is an obvious page left unwritten in his career. Whether it’s with TNA or WWE, Hardy says never say never to a return.

The former superstar was a huge hit in the WWE for many years with both his brother as the Hardy Boys and as a singles competitor. The former ECW champion has done it all, but he admits that there is still a chance that he would come back.

If Hardy did come back, the schedule would have to be much different.

Throughout the interview, Hardy talks about how happy he is now that he has more time to spend with the people he cares about. While there is no denying that Hardy’s past year has been rough, he has found solace in his family and wrestling, and he will eventually find his way back to the big time.

Matt Hardy Doesn’t Shy Away from Controversy

Just when you thought Ring Rust Radio was going to lob softballs at the controversial superstar, we came through in the clutch and got you the answers you wanted to know.

Most of the credit has to go to Matt Hardy, though, for being open to us and sharing where he is at in life. For that, fans should have respect for the star.

From the talk about the Lita/Edge storyline to his recent well-publicized problems, Hardy was surprisingly open about the trials and tribulations he has faced in life.

With a clean body and a clean conscience, Hardy will begin his ascension back to the top of the industry. At 37 years old, there is still plenty of time left for Hardy to be in the spotlight.
