Hello and Welcome Bills fans to the great site here on BleacherReport.com!
In an effort to bring the Bills community together here and to improve communication between us, I will be writing a Bills Newsletter during the off-season and regular season, starting with this edition.
The newsletter will come out every now and then in the off-season (depending on what news comes out on the team, new ideas, etc.). It will also come out every week during the regular season.
Since this is the first newsletter written, I will have to take the time to explain what exactly this is going to bring to the community (despite how boring it will be). I will make it as quick and painless as possible.
First off, let me introduce myself. I am Matt Schaefer, one of the Bills community leaders along with GB Bongiovanni.
This newsletter will give you a brief write up of any news/events that you might have missed but will focus mostly on the community and some ideas to improve it. Some thing it will include will be monthly/weekly awards during the regular season, ideas for writers, round-table discussion topics, and much more.
So after that quick explanation let me get this first newsletter underway!
- Both Bills greats, defensive end Bruce Smith and owner Ralph Wilson Jr., will be headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the class of 2009! You can buy tickets to the Enshrinement Ceremony by going to this link: http://prod1.agileticketing.net/WebSales/Pages/PackageTypeSelect.aspx?epguid=26453a4c-e964-4a86-bdf1-6a14dc080f96&. Tickets are $28 or $60.
- Along with the new Hall of Fame members, the Bills will play in the Hall of Fame game on August 9, to kick off the NFL season! It is against the Tennessee Titans and will have a kickoff of 8:00 PM (eastern). Tickets for the game will go on sale at a later date.
- Be sure to watch the 2009 Pro Bowl to see Marshawn Lynch go up against some of the best talent in the NFL!
It might be a little late, but I would like to have the Bills Community Awards for the 2008-2009 season.
Most of the articles on here were more entertaining than the Bills play down the stretch, and deserve some recognition from the community.
Here are the categories:
- Best Writer
- Most Consistent Writer
- Most Comical Writer
- Most Controversial Writer
- Writer Not Enough People Read (Underrated)
- Writer with the Most Intelligent Articles
- Funniest Article
- Most Controversial Article
- Best Article Overall
Yes, some of those were stolen from the NHL Community awards (actually most) but I wasn’t going to waste my time giving them stereotypical Buffalo names, like The Best Wing Award or something corny like that. So I will stick with my un-original names.
To vote, just pick a writer for each category in a comment below. The announcement of the winners will come in a week or two with the next newsletter, giving you some time to look over articles again. Good luck to all!
LOOKING FOR BILLS DRAFT ROUND-TABLE
The draft still isn’t for another 80 days, but every Bills fan out there knows what he/she would do with the No. 11 overall pick. I will be looking to get those opinions heard in a Bills round-table.
If you are interested, just make a post on my B/R profile or send me over an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The round-table will not take place for another month or two. I am just looking for interested parties. If you are interested, I will bug you again sometime in the future just to remind you.
GROWING THE BILLS COMMUNITY
This starts with me, but I am looking for help from the community too. Right now we sit at 341 members, which puts us behind the likes of the bigger teams, like the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and New England Patriots.
No offense to those communities, but Buffalo has a stronger fan base than most of those teams! We are one of the best fan bases in the nation! But hey, at least we are beating the Miami Dolphin and New York “Bretts” communities.
Just spreading the word to family or friends about http://bleacherreport.com/buffalo-bills is all I ask for. I will be doing the job of spamming message boards, facebook groups, etc.
Spread the word to make it a large, strong community!
Be Loud, Be Proud, Be Considerate!
TWO MINUTE DRILL
Well seeing as this is the first newsletter, don’t kill me on it. Your ideas, suggestions and comments on what you would like to see included, what you liked, and how to make it better, are greatly appreciated.
If you need me for anything, you can contact me through my B/R profile or by sending an email to email@example.com. I am available at anytime for anything that you need or any question to be answered.
Thanks for reading the first volume of the Bills Community Newsletter!
Have a great day everyone and…
LET’S GO BUFFALO!
