After just coming off a loss at Ole miss earlier today, things aren't looking to great for the hogs.
They are 19-10 and on the bubble. Let’s take a look at Arkansas resume for selection Sunday which is just a few weeks away.
Strengths:
These young men are very good at home, making plays that leave me awestruck as i watch them on television. They cause excellent pressure at the half-court line causing turnovers which make turn into fast break dunks by Weems or Beverley. This team can go 7-9 guys deep at any time, and the coach isn't afraid to sub any one in. We are an experienced team with almost the entire team returning from last year. When they get on a roll they will shoot lights out basketball.
Weaknesses:
These same young men are very, very bad on the road. The plays I spoke of earlier are non-existent on the road. When pressured, they will turnover the ball often. Charles Thomas hasn't had the "Manimal" type of year he had last year and hasn’t been showing any sign of picking up his poor performance any time soon. When the game is on the line these guys show a lot of passion, but normally fold up like a paper plane. The last 2 minutes of the game the shooting percentage, defense, and turnover numbers all go down, (turnover numbers going up). I have also noticed that they arent listening to the coach. He may draw up one thing but they go out and do another. Listen to the man. He was hired for a reason.
Players who need to step up:
Patrick Beverly, the SEC freshman of the year last year has been coming on as of late and is a reason for the hogs success this year. He has 11.4 ppg, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. His numbers need to go up in all categories, now don’t get me wrong these are good numbers. But if they want to win in the big dance he needs to bring his stats UP.
Charles Thomas, The Manimal, has lost a lot of weight last off-season in order to run the floor and fit coach pelphrey's system. He has not been the shinning star he was last year and it has a reason why we have lost 10 games. If he suddenly starts playing well again we have a chance to go deep in the tourney and make noise.
Steven Hill. Well we all know he will send your shot into the 7th row if you put a lazy lay-up any where near him, but what about his offense. Last year they got Hill involved by tossing the ball high and letting him finish an oop. I haven’t seen much of that this year but if they can do that 4-5 times a game and have him keep up the defense he has always shown it will carry us far.
