College Football Recruiting 2013: The Top Commitment for Each SEC School

Edwin WeathersbyJun 6, 2018

This week, we're just going to bounce around the BCS conferences looking at each program's top commitment thus far in their 2013 recruiting classes.

Obviously, it was only natural that we start with the mighty SEC. Football is king in this conference, as it's the most competitive league of sports in the country.

So come on inside SEC (and non-SEC) fans and see the top incoming prospect for each school within the conference.

Kentucky

The Wildcats have no commitments for the 2013 class yet.

Vanderbilt

2 of 14

The Commodores' top prospect is dual-threat QB Johnathon McCrary.

He's a 6'3", 180-pounder from Georgia that possesses good arm strength, athleticism, mobility and can make plays within and outside of the pocket.

Look for McCrary to come in and become a starter for James Franklin early in his career at Vandy.

Texas A&M

The Aggies have another very solid recruiting class in the works, and it presents many options to choose from for this list.

However, I'm going with 6'6", 217-pound WR Derrick Griffin. A lean and long pass-catcher, Griffin has deceptive speed and quickness for a big pass-catcher, a very large catch radius and great leaping ability.

It's also not out of the realm of possibility that Griffin moves to TE at some point during his tenure in College Station.

Tennessee

Derek Dooley holds five pledges right now, and the top prospect is WR Camion Patrick.

An in-state star, Patrick goes 6'2", 200 pounds and has good speed. He's a big-bodied receiver that can move around the field with ease, has separation quickness and of course can get vertical in a flash.

Patrick's best football is ahead of him at Rocky Top.

South Carolina

Seven players have committed to Steve Spurrier thus far in the 2013 recruiting class, but none greater (or bigger) than OT DJ Park.

A Palmetto State native, Park goes 6'5", 315 pounds already. He can play OT or OG, has good athleticism, quick feet and flashes good power in the trenches.

I think he may be best suited to play OG right now, but don't be shocked to see him on the edges in Columbia.

Missouri

I'm going with LB Nick Ramirez for the Tigers on this list. Ramirez is a 6'2", 230-pounder with 4.6 speed that could fit best as a Mike 'backer.

He flashes some athleticism and ability to factor as a zone defender vs. the pass. However, the stout second-level defender can come up and put a licking on a ball carrier to combat the run.

Mississippi State

The Bulldogs only have two commitments, and I like the ceiling for Brandon Wells.

Now Bulldogs fans, be patient with this guy, but in a few years, you may have something. Wells is 6'1", 180 pounds and play QB right now because he's such a playmaker.

Yet Dan Mullen likely will move him to WR, and his size and speed give him a blank canvas. Once he develops his route running, he has a chance to make some noise.

Ole Miss

Hugh Freeze's top pledge is from 4-star DB Antonio Allen, a 5'10", 195-pounder from inside the state.

Allen has the tools to be a great SS, as even though he lacks length in his frame, he's extremely physical at the point of attack, crashes down hard vs. the run and has good speed.

Tough and willing, Allen takes great angles in pursuit, has excellent ball locate skills and will help combat the pass.

LSU

9 of 14

LSU is having a solid year as a usual on the trail, with nine commitments already for 2013.

The top prospect is DB John Diarse, a 4-star prospect from the Bayou State. 6'1", 205 pounds, Diarse also has WR talent on offense.

He's a very, very good athlete, isn't shy to mix it up against anyone and has great hands.

Georgia

10 of 14

Mark Richt is off to a sizzling start this year with 15 commitments already. There are many good prospects in UGA's class, but I'm sticking with 6'3", 240-pound RB Derrick Henry.

Henry is so athletic that it's possible he may be an even better LB. However, a man that big and that fast, with nimble feet and running back production like Henry's should just be kept to tote the rock.

This is the third year in a row that Richt will sign an elite RB prospect.

Florida

11 of 14

Florida, not to be outdone by their rivals in Athens, also holds 15 pledges already. I struggled a bit to pick just one top commitment, but I'm settling on Caleb Brantley.

Brantley is a 6'2" DT that weighs nearly 300 pounds. He's strong on his feet, can anchor against the run and has some one-gap penetration ability.

He'll fit in naturally in Florida's defensive scheme, where Dan Quinn likes to mix 30 and 40 fronts.

Auburn

12 of 14

Auburn has a commitment from Carl Lawson, but I'm going with Dee Liner as their top incoming player.

Liner is a 6'3", 270-pounder from Alabama that has great athleticism. He can explode at the snap, get into a blocker's body, get out to get free and make a play vs. the run.

Liner also has good quickness as a pass-rusher and flashes quick hands to combat a blocker's punch.

Arkansas

13 of 14

The Razorbacks have and will continue to have a peculiar recruiting cycle. They just got a pledge from RB Kaleb Blanchard, and he is their only commitment, so he's on this list by default.

However, Blanchard is a talented runner that already goes 6'1", 205 pounds. He's a downhill attacker that runs with good power and strength.

Blanchard has a good stride in the open field and solid speed.

Alabama

14 of 14

A recruiting juggernaut, the Crimson Tide sit with 11 commitments for 2013 and have one of the top two overall players in the nation.

LB Reuben Foster is a 5-star prospect and the No. 2 ranked player nationally. He's 6'2", 245 pounds and has everything you want and need plus more in a LB prospect.

Look for Foster to follow up in the lines of McClain, Hightower, Mosley and Ragland.
