Sergio Aguero: Manchester City Forward Dismisses Real Madrid Transfer Talk

Christopher HallJun 7, 2018

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero says he has no plans to leave the Etihad for Real Madrid.

Transfer rumors linking the prolific goal scorer to the Spanish giants intensified earlier this month after his father-in-law, Diego Maradona, talked to Argentinian radio station Radio de la Red.

"Kun has to play for Real Madrid," Maradona said (h/t talkSport). "Even though he is flying at City, the best thing would have been to sign for Madrid. He made a mistake."

As City look to chase down league-leaders Manchester United over the last three games of the season, Aguero wants to make his focus clear.

Setanta is reporting that the striker said his father-in-law is free to say whatever he likes. But Aguero was adamant in stating, "I have never said that I want to play for Real Madrid, and I don't want to play for them today. I'm happy at Manchester City."

Aguero spent five seasons starring for Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid's bitter local rivals in the Spanish capital.

The Argentinian has scored 29 goals in all competitions for Roberto Mancini's team this season.

He's also provided the most consistently productive and drama-free option for the Italian manager in a forward corps at City that includes Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli.

Aguero will take center stage on Monday when City play host to Manchester United for a derby match that could end up proving decisive in this season's title race.

City are currently three points behind Sir Alex Ferguson's Red Devils at the top of the table.

But because of their advantage in goal differential, a win on Monday would put Aguero and City in the league lead with just two matches remaining.
