WWE News: Rey Mysterio Suspended 60 Days for Wellness Violation
Rey Mysterio has been off WWE television since last summer due to injury and now his return will be delayed by a second violation of the company's wellness policy. He's been suspended for 60 days, according to WWE.com.
"In accordance with its Talent Wellness Program, WWE has suspended Oscar Gutierrez (Rey Mysterio) for 60 days effective Thursday, April 26 for his second violation of the company's policy.
"
Mysterio was previously punished in 2009 for his first violation. That gives Mysterio two strikes. A third would cause a termination of his contract and he would no longer be a part of the WWE, so today's news should be a wake-up call for the veteran superstar.

His status as a fan favorite makes it tough on the company, which has missed his presence to help attract a younger audience. Since fellow high-flying stars Sin Cara and Evan Bourne are missing in action as well, that part of the company has been struggling.
We'll have to wait to see if Mysterio makes any statements about the suspension. His Twitter account has been inactive for nearly a week, but he posted earlier in the month that he was hoping to make a comeback by May. That's obviously no longer an option.
It's not uncommon for athletes to look for every advantage they can get in order to speed up recovery from an injury. Nobody knows if that's the case with Mysterio or not, but he's always been one of the company's best workers, so it wouldn't be a surprise.
He should be fully recovered from his injury by the time the suspension ends in late June. That would also give him time for a storyline leading up to SummerSlam, but it's unclear how much backstage heat he'll receive for a second suspension. The executives might not reward him with a marquee PPV match.
Hopefully Mysterio can learn from his latest mistake and move forward. It would be unfortunate to see him get booted due to self-inflicted issues.
