Beth Phoenix: Injury to Former Champion Will Kill Women's Division
With an injury to her ankle and the subsequent loss of her Divas Championship to Nikki Bella on RAW SuperShow on Monday, Beth Phoenix is trying to recover from two injuries now; a sprained ankle and a broken heart.
It was during Phoenix’s title match on RAW that she jumped out of the ring and landed awkwardly on her ankle. After struggling to get back into the match, Nikki Bella rolled the star up quickly and won the title.
WWE physician Dr. Michael Sampson told WWE.com about Phoenix’s injury sustained Monday night on RAW:

"It looks like she affected her anterior talofibular ligament, which is the most common injured ankle ligament on an inversion injury. She has some swelling, [and] she’s having a hard time walking or ambulating on it. We’re going to need an MRI just to make sure there’s nothing else going on and see how we can treat it – if we need surgery or if we can do it conservatively."
Whether this is a work or not, the move has blackened the eye of the women’s division even more. If there was any shred of respect left for the Divas, it is now officially gone.
An ailing Phoenix took to Twitter to share her feelings about the matter:
"Thank you to everyone that helped me thru the airport this morning. Will keep every posted on MRI and xray results. Believe me...nothing

Without Phoenix to make everyone else in that division look like real athletes, there will be nothing but stupid squash matches filled with botches.
The only thing that kept the women’s division legitimate over the past few years has been Beth Phoenix and Natalya. With one hurt and one farting, the WWE has completely dismantled what was a great part of the show.
The WWE must bring back Kharma immediately to bring some kind of relevance to the belt, but the feud has to ultimately end up being Beth Phoenix vs. Kharma. Not only is that the only match that could save the division, it’s the only match that could resemble a real wrestling match.
Don’t agree with me? Watch some footage of Sara Del Rey and tell me WWE isn't screwing up the women’s division.
