WWE Raw Results: Top 15 Moments from Last Night's Show

Justin WatryApr 24, 2012

Extreme Rules is this Sunday night! Being a paying customer, I really felt like WWE needed to deliver a great Raw show last night.

They had a few nice moments, but the Red Brand disappointed. It was still a solid (C grade) episode of Raw, but nothing really made me pumped for Sunday night.

What were the highlights? Let's discuss...

15. Lord Tensai Wins

1 of 15

Lord Tensai destroyed R-Truth last night.

It was a fine match, but nothing of note happened. I am all for Tensai picking up wins over name talent, but last week was huge for the big man.

He defeated John Cena in the main event. This week was back to the same old song and dance.

Of course, the crowd also could not resist their beloved "Albert" chants...

It is too bad fans aren't even giving this man a chance in 2012. From the second Tensai comes out, the live crowd is already done with him and are ready to mock his former name. Just ridiculous...

14. SmackDown Announcements

2 of 15

This Friday night, we will see Mark Henry take on Sheamus. That is a good match for them, as another feud between those two stars is always welcome.

Michael Cole also said he would be interviewing Randy Orton. While Cole is no longer a huge heel like last year, he can still serve his purpose getting involved with story lines.

With the Blue Brand trying to recover from yet another wasted attempt at a live Tuesday special, it is nice to see some attention shown towards SmackDown. It should be an interesting show!

13. Kane and Orton Feud

3 of 15

Hopefully, the Kane and Randy Orton feud is coming to a close. Let an RKO this Sunday end their battles, and move on...

Last night on Raw, Orton got a little revenge on Kane. Since the Big Red Monster took out Bob Orton, it was only fair to return the favor.

Orton humiliated Kane's father (Paul bearer) for a little bit. Of course, Kane is a heel, so he didn't care.

It was a nice cameo from Paul, and the backstage segment later was great. I was waiting for Edge to walk by and throw a ball at his head or feed him pizza...

12. Live Crowd

4 of 15

Detroit was a good crowd.

It is always tough to get through a three hour Raw. I was live at a three hour Raw special back in 2008, and the show was excellent. However, you could definitely feel the three hours...

Outside of the usual "too smart" chants, this was a big, lively audience!

11. Funky Crew

5 of 15

The women at ringside looked stunning. Cameron and Naomi are perfect in red, while Vickie Guerrero definitely picked the right outfit for Monday night.

The actual match was Brodus Clay and Hornswoggle vs. Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger. It was very short, and we never did get an actual winner.

There was interference, and the dance party was on!

In the end, Vickie got humiliated, and the Funky Crew stood tall again! Always great seeing Hornswoggle out there having fun...

10. PPV Hype

6 of 15

Santino Marella will be defending his United States Championship against The Miz at Extreme Rules on the pre-show. WWE will be airing this on their website (like WrestleMania XXVIII), and that is a fun idea to continue.

Some will rant and rave about The Miz going for a mid card title, but I won't. Chris Jericho won the Intercontinental title multiple times after being in the main event scene, as did Triple H.

It is no big deal. My only issue was Miz not appearing on Raw at all. Not backstage. Not attacking Santino. Nothing!

That was disappointing.

9. Diva's Title Match

7 of 15

Beth Phoenix lost her Diva's title to Nikki Bella. The champion had won the gold many months ago but was doing nothing currently.

I have a few thoughts on the abrupt title change.

First, I hope Beth is fine. Safety comes first. Whether that injury was legitimate or not doesn't matter. Her well being is always first priority.

Second, this sure makes the rumors of the Bella Twins leaving even more interesting. For those who have noticed, I have yet to come on those stories.

Honestly, the sources seem accurate. You just have to wonder what is really going on, as I repeatedly say to watch what you believe on the Internet.

I don't like "fantasy booking" much, but this sure does set up Kharma to return nicely. Remember who bashed her during her final Raw appearance last year?

It was the Bella Twins! Now that Nikki is holding the gold and the duo may be exiting WWE next week, what better way to leave the company then for Kharma to come out, destroy the two and take the title?

I will wait until next week, but it does seem logical...

8. Khali and Show

8 of 15

The Great Khali and Big Show defeated Alberto Del Rio and Cody Rhodes. It was a fine tag match, but there were a few funny moments.

I loved when they announced that Del Rio was now on the SmackDown roster, as he was appearing on Raw. Supershow or not, the whole brand extension is ridiculous.

Also, we now know that Big Show will defend his Intercontinental Championship against Cody Rhodes this Sunday. There was no stipulation named.

We may see a new champion in that one, but I am not sure. With their WrestleMania story being over, there just isn't much left for these two to do.

7. Alex Riley Appears

9 of 15

Alex Riley is a very intriguing talent in WWE. Being a big fan of his since the second season of NXT, I have always enjoyed his work. However, he has been doing nothing for months now.

Tomorrow, he could begin winning matches and become a big name in this business by next year.

Tomorrow, he could be released from the company.

Tomorrow, he could be a nice heel in the mid card.

Tomorrow, he could be the next top face, behind John Cena.

You just never know with this guy.

The man has something about him that is fun to watch. He appeared backstage in a supporting role last night with the Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk story, but he did a great job.

It was short, but a speaking segment on Raw is still a speaking segment on Raw!

6. CM Drunk

10 of 15

Honestly, I see this feud ending Sunday. The entire "alcohol" focus has gone on too long. It was a nice topic to mention in passing but not every single week.

Did anybody really believe Punk was drunk backstage? Did anybody not know what was going to happen with the field sobriety test?

It was very predictable and took up way too much time. I am all for the WWE Championship feud getting attention, but this was not for me.

Thankfully, Jericho had a very entertaining match with Kofi Kingston earlier in the night. Those two were great inside the squared circle, with the Walls of Jericho finishing off Kofi.

Jericho's promo after the match about Punk was also well done and straight to the point. This Sunday is Extreme Rules, and both men want to beat each other half to death in a Chicago Street Fight!

That is all that needed to be said.

5. Sheamus vs. Henry

11 of 15

Daniel Bryan was the special guest referee. That was a nice twist on this story, and it was a fun reveal for the live crowd.

With Sheamus vs. Mark Henry, the result should have been easy. The World Champion needs to win, and despite some thinking otherwise, I would have not been angry over that decision.

However, Bryan was calling the shots. Thus, a cheap Henry victory made the most sense. Remember I simply want basic logic in stories.

Of course, Bryan was going to cheat Sheamus out of the match! That is what a good heel should do, and the live crowd booed him (as they should).

This was a nice segment, and Sheamus promising revenge backstage was the icing on the cake.

4. My "It" Girls

12 of 15

The Diva's title match was a Lumberjill match. All of the ladies were out there, but Aksana, Alicia Fox, and Rosa Mendes stood out the most.

They all did a great job and added immensely to the segment.

Even with that, Rosa Mendes was not done for the night. Her tag team (Primo and Epico) was facing Zack Ryder and Santino in a short match.

Notice when the segment started! The first camera shot was of Rosa, not the champions. Once again folks, she is the true star of the division right now.

Thankfully, the titles were not on the line. The Comedy Duo picked up the victory.

Backstage, we were treated to yet another Rosa sighting. This time, Abraham Washington wanted to speak to them. He continues to "scout" talent, so this was good to see.

All in all, my "it" girls were featured big time, and each one delivered!

3. Contract Signing

13 of 15

The closing segment was not "bad," but it wasn't very memorable either.

Brock Lesnar has never been good at long promos. He is best saying a few words at a time and looking like an intimidating monster.

I am not going to cry and beg for Paul Heyman to return and speak for him, but Lesnar was definitely of his element last night. I really hope he is not asked to give a lengthy speech again.

John Cena came out and didn't say a word. He simply showed fear, before signing the contract. Cena has been on a little losing streak lately, so this made sense.

Get ready for yet another 56,832 "Cena turns heel" laughable conspiracy theories. You know they are coming any minute now from fans...

I expected another brawl, but the two did not touch. Being a paying customer, it will be interesting to see if that strategy pays off when the Extreme Rules buy rate is released in a few months.

2. Lesnar Videos

14 of 15

I did love the Lesnar videos throughout the show.

We saw his Backlash 2002 match against Jeff Hardy. His huge match against Hulk Hogan was shown, and the big WWE Title win over Kurt Angle at WrestleMania XIX.

Did you notice what those three talents have in common?

Yeah, the company certainly treated Brock like a huge star on Raw. When he arrived, Josh Matthews was the poor soul who got to interview him. That did not go well, as Lesnar beat the guy up.

Again, he did not say a word during all of this. The man just looked powerful, played his heel character, and that is the best use of him going forward...

1. Opening Segment

15 of 15

The opening segment was the best part of the three hour Raw.

John Cena was ready to sign the contract to begin the show, but Lesnar had not arrived yet. He was "too big" to be there on time. That played perfectly into Edge coming out.

He mentioned his status with the company and put over how dedicated he was to the business. Just like Cena, these two loved their jobs.

Rivals or not, they lived and breathed WWE. Not Brock Lesnar. He could not care any less about the profession or fans of the industry.

Cena wasn't fighting for himself at Extreme Rules. He was fighting for Edge and every other wrestler who ever loved WWE.

It played off the recent feud with The Rock but put focus on Brock Lesnar. Edge made a perfect cameo Monday night, and I hope that was not the last we see of him...
