UFC 145 Results: Jones vs. Evans Fight Card

On Saturday, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will finally settle his differences with former teammate Rashad Evans inside the Octagon. 

The elite 205-pound fighters have been feuding ever since Jones took Evans' spot in a title fight against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and proceeded to earn the belt. Following Jones' win, Evans split from long-time coach Greg Jackson and re-earned his spot as top contender with wins over Tito Ortiz and Phil Davis.

Once UFC 145 is live from the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, Bleacher Report will provide live results below and in-depth play-by-play on the following pages of this slideshow.

Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans

Jones defeats Evans by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 50-45).

Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills

MacDonald defeats Mills by technical knockout (punches) at 2:20 of the second round.

Brendan Schaub vs. Ben Rothwell

Rothwell defeats Schaub by technical knockout (punches) at 1:10 of the first round. 

Miguel Torres vs. Michael McDonald 

McDonald defeats Torres by knockout (punches) at 3:18 of the first round.

Round 1

After Rashad Evans dances inside the Octagon to Jon Jones' walkout music, one of the most highly anticipated fights of 2012 gets underway with both fighters starting crouched low to the ground.

Jones lands to the body and half-attempts a double-leg takedown. Evans presses forward and eats a knee from the champion. The challenger lands a counter uppercut, though.

The current Greg Jackson trainee grazes Evans with a head kick and lands with his right hand. With two-minutes left, a left hook lands for Jones.

Evans attacks the legs of Jones with a kick, but Jones answers with body kicks four minutes into the opening round. Evans slows Jones' attack with a head kick, but it probably isn't enough to steal the round from the champion.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Jones.


Round 2

The fighters clich and Evans lands a few knees to the body. After separating, Jones lands a leg kick, which is answered by a leg kick from Evans.

Jones misses with a spinning back kick and nearly gives up his back, but he is able to back away from his former training partner. Evans lands to the body, but Jones scores with an elbow.

Another stepping elbow lands for Jones and a follow-up elbow staggers Evans with less than two minutes remaining in the frame. The champion continues to find a home for the stepping elbow, which Evans has no answer for.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Jones (20-18 Jones). 


Round 3

Evans blasts Jones with a right hand, but the champion returns an overhand right of his own. Jones hits Evans with a body kick and starts pumping his long jab into the face of his much shorter opponent.

Another elbow lands for Jones, who gets with with a right hook by Evans. Evans lands a left hook with two minutes left in the round and Jones kicks to the body of the former champion.

At this point, Evans needs to completely switch up his game plan in order to pull off the upset.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Jones (30-27 Jones).

Round 4

Finally, Evans looks to take the fight to the ground, but Jones easily stuffs the attempt. Jones counters a leg kick with a straight right.

Evans goes to the body and lands a stiff jab, but he is far to conservative for a fighter who might need to finish this fight in order to win.

Jones looks to lock up a guillotine choke on an Evans takedown attempt, but it isn't there and the champion lands a right hand after letting it go. Jones looks for a takedown as the round comes to an end, but Evans stuffs it.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Jones (40-36 Jones).

Round 5

After some fancy footwork, Jones lands a leg kick one minute into the round. Jones fakes the jab and blasts Evans with a straight right.

A superman punch and front kick land for Jones. Evans throws a prayer with a spinning backfist, but it misses badly.

Jones lands a jab-leg kick combination and trips Evans to the ground with one minute left. Evans works his way back to his feet, however.

Strangely, the champion pulls guard and eats a few shots as the fight comes to an end, but Jones will take one step closer to becoming a legend with this victory. Are there any doubters still out there or are they simply haters at this point?

Jones defeats Evans by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 50-45).

Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills

Round 1

Che Mills is the first to land with a leg kick and he lands a right hand near the fence. An uppercut hurts Rory MacDonald, but the Canadian is able to take the fight to the ground with an ankle pick.

MacDonald postures up and blasts Mills with big shots. The training partner of Georges St-Pierre moves to side control and then secures a mounted crucifix. Mills escapes the crucifix, but he is still unable to work his way to his feet against the smothering attack of MacDonald.

MacDonald moves to full-mount and takes Mills' back before the end of the round. 

B/R scores the round 10-9 MacDonald.


Round 2

A high crotch leads to another takedown for MacDonald, who immediately moves to side control. One minute into the round, MacDonald gains full-mount and then takes the Englishman's back.

MacDonald blasts away with punches and forces the referee to step in and save Mills from unnecessary damage. Once again, MacDonald showed he is an unstoppable force from the top position.

MacDonald defeats Mills by technical knockout (punches) at 2:20 of the second round.

Brendan Schaub vs. Ben Rothwell

Round 1

Ben Rothwell lands a combination and a knee from the clinch, but Brendan Schaub rocks his opponent. Schaub rushes forward for the finish and lands an uppercut, but Rothwell counters with a left hook, which knocks Schaub out cold.

Rothwell defeats Schaub by technical knockout (punches) at 1:10 of the first round.

Miguel Torres vs. Michael McDonald

Round 1

Michael McDonald presses forward and lands an uppercut-left hook combination. Another uppercut hits the chin of Miguel Torres, but the former WEC champion answers with an overhand right.

Once again, the uppercut lands for McDonald, who sends Torres crashing to the canvas. The knockout puts the 21-year-old McDonald within striking distance of a bantamweight title shot.

McDonald defeats Torres by knockout (punches) at 3:18 of the first round.

Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin

Round 1

Eddie Yagin lands a leg kick in the opening seconds of the fight. The 33-year-old Hawaiian looks confident early, as he lands a left hook to the chin of Mark Hominick.

Hominick is hit with a series of leg kicks and another left hook, but the Canadian fires back with a stiff jab. After throwing several jabs in a row, Hominick is countered with an overhand right and dropped by an uppercut.

The former top contender recovers and regains his feet. Hominick goes back to his jab and lands a right hook, but there was little he could do to take back the round.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Yagin.


Round 2

The fresher fighter heading into the second round, Hominick is using his reach advantage to land his jab. Yagin answers with a leg kick and spinning back kick, though.

Again, Yagin drops the Canadian with a right hand, but Hominick recovers and ties his opponent up on the ground. Hominick works his way to his feet and begins landing with straight punches with two minutes remaining in the stanza.

Hominick hits the body of Yagin with a left hook and scores with jabs as the round comes to an end. Aside from the knockdown, the round belonged to the Canadian. 

B/R scores the round 10-9 Hominick (19-19).


Round 3

Hominick lands to the body and head of Yagin with his left hand. The Shawn Tompkins-trained fighter continues to find a home for his jab and lands a straight right.

Yagin lands a leg kick, but Hominick continues to press forward with jabs. Another heavy leg kick scores for Yagin, but Hominick is landing with a much greater frequency in this final frame.

The right hand of Hominick backs Yagin up with one minute left in the fight. Hominick continues to land with his straight right, but will the judges award the Canadian for landing more in the second round over Yagin's knockdown?

B/R scores the round 10-9 Hominick (29-28 Hominick).

Yagin defeats Hominick by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Mark Bocek vs. John Alessio

Round 1

Bocek lands an inside leg kick and shoots in for a single-leg takedown. The younger Canadian drives Alessio into the fence and gets the takedown after a struggle. Bocek lands right hands from the half-guard and begin dropping elbows as Alessio looks for a sweep.

Alessio gains full-guard, but Bocek blasts him with elbows and returns to half-guard. Bocek spins to the back of Alessio with under one minute left in the round and locks up a body triangle. The round ends with Bocek lands left hands from Alessio's back.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Bocek.


Round 2

Alessio's return to the Octagon is not going as planned, as the long time veteran is hit with some leg kicks by Bocek to open the second frame. Bocek rushes forward and secures another double-leg takedown with three minutes remaining in the round.

After some methodical ground and pound from Bocek, Alessio returns to his feet and lands a push kick with one minute left to work on his feet. Bocek eats a couple hooks from Alessio, who is pressed against the fence until the end of the round. 

B/R scores the round 10-9 Bocek (20-18 Bocek).


Round 3

An aggressive Alessio comes out realizing he needs a knockout in the third round and he lands a hard left hook in the opening minute. However, Bocek times an Alessio kick and takes the fight to the ground again.

Bocek quickly takes Alessio's back, where he can probably salt away a victory if he holds the position. Alessio escapes with two minutes left in the fight, though.

Another takedown attempt is successful for Bocek, who is well on his way to a second straight victory. Alessio escapes and pushes forward with punches at the end of the fight, but he is most likely going to walk away a loser after his return to the UFC.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Bocek (30-27 Bocek).

Bocek defeats Alessio by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27).

Travis Browne vs. Chad Griggs

Round 1

Two years ago, Strikeforce veteran Chad Griggs was supposed to serve as a punching bag for former professional wrestler Bobby Lashley. On Saturday night, Griggs opened his UFC career with a slapping inside leg kick against Travis Browne.

Browne answers with a flying knee and more knees from the clinch. A much larger Browne slams Griggs to the ground and moves to full-mount. Griggs leaves an arm triangle wide open for Browne and the Hawaiian takes it to remain undefeated.

Browne defeats Griggs by submission (arm triangle) at 2:29 of the first round.

Matt Brown vs. Stephen Thompson

Round 1

Coming off of an incredible knockout in his UFC debut, Stephen Thompson avoids a Matt Brown takedown and lands a body kick. Brown takes the fight to the ground on a second attempt, though.

Thompson works his way back to his feet, but Brown immediates forces "Wonderboy" to the fence.Brown trips Thompson to the ground and takes his opponent's back. Thompson avoids a calf slicer and winds up on top, but he is quickly reversed and the round comes to an end.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Brown.


Round 2

Brown grinds away for a takedown and gets one despite telegraphing the double-leg. Thompson uses the fence to stand and lands a leg kick.

Finally able to gain some distance, Thompson begins teeing off on Brown. A spinning back kick lands for Thompson, who appears to have Brown hurt badly.

Both fighters look exhausted, but Brown turns the tables and knocks Thompson to the canvas with a right hand with one minute remaining in the round. Brown hits Thompson with short elbows and moves to side control.

Thompson survives, but he is tired and cut from the elbows of Brown.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Brown (20-18 Brown).


Round 3

Thompson lands a straight left to start the final round, but Brown rushes forward and lands. Thompson is starting to land now, but he might need a finish to win this fight and remain undefeated,

Two straight right hands land for Thompson, which prompts a takedown from Brown. Thompson clearly need work on his takedown defense in order to take his career to the next level. Brown moves to side control and lands elbows to the thigh of his 29-year-old opponent.

Brown secures the mounted crucifix position and transitions to a mounted triangle, which allows him to pound away at a defenseless Thompson until the end of the fight.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Brown (30-27 Brown).

Brown defeats Thompson by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-27, 30-27).

John Makdessi vs. Anthony Njokuani

Round 1

Anthony Njokuani lands a body kick to get the action started. John Makdessi controls the center of the Octagon, but he eats a leg kick from Njokuani.

Both fighters land leg kicks before Njokuani dashes forward and finishes a combination with a body kick. Makdessi eats a left hook and head kick. The Canadian is wobbled, but he recovers with about two minutes left in the round.

Njokuani scores with a head kick and Makdessi continues throwing hook kicks, but none of them are landing.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Njokuani.


Round 2

Makdessi lands a jab and a turning side kick, but Njokuani answers with a leg kick. Another turning side kick lands for Makdessi.

Njokuani catches a kick and returns to the other leg of Makdessi. The Nigerian lands another powerful kick to Makdessi's lead leg, which is beginning to redden.

A couple left hooks land for Makdessi, but they likely aren't enough for him to steal the round on the scorecards for a fight he will probably need to finish before the end of the thrid round in order to win.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Njokuani (20-18 Njokuani).


Round 3

The long reach of Njokuani is a major factor in this fight as he continues to land leg kicks from the outside. 

Makdessi lands a spinning back kick, but Njokuani is doing a nice job of avoiding Makdessi's power. A spinning backfist does score for the Canadian, though.

The Nigerian lands a body kick-jab combination before returning to leg kick with two minutes remaining in the bout. A beautiful combination lands to the head of Makdessi, as Njokuani appears to be on his way to his third win in his past five fights.

Frustrated with Njokuani's reluctance to engage in the final minute, Makdessi shrugs his shoulders in disappointment after what will likely be his second straight loss.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Njokuani (30-27 Njokuani).

Njokuani defeats Makdessi by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Mac Danzig vs. Efrain Escudero

Round 1

Efrain Escudero lands a kick to the lead leg of fellow The Ultimate Fighter winner Mac Danzig. The fighters clinch along the fence, where both fighters trade elbows and knees before Escudero drops down for a heel hook.

Danzig escapes and ends up on top, but Escudero escapes with three minutes remaining in the round. The jab of Danzig is working well along the fence and the 32-year-old clinches. Despite securing a body lock from behind Escudeo, Danzig can't drag the fight to the ground.

With under one minute remaining in the frame, Escudero looks for the double-leg takedown, but Danzig defends until the horn blows to mark the end of the round.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Danzig.


Round 2

With UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson in his corner, Escudero opens the second round with another leg kick. THe 26-year-old lands a heavy right hand, but Danzig answers with a thudding leg kick.

Danzig clinches and lands to the body. After separating, Danzig lands another solid leg kick. Escudero answers with a stiff jab, but Danzig fires right back with another leg kicks.

The fighters clinch and Escudero lands a knee to the body. Danzig gains space and lands a leg kick before missing with a superman punch. Danzig finishes the ronud controlling Escudero along the fence and landing punches to the body.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Danzig (20-18 Danzig).


Round 3

After telling his cornermen that he had injured his ankle in the first-round heel hook attempt by Escudeo, Danzig still comes out with excellent footwork in the third round and lands a nice leg kick-uppercut combination.

Danzig attempts to take the back of Escudero along the fence, but he decides to release and lands a knee on the way out. Looking much strong than Escudero in the clinch, Danzig continues to control the fight along the fence.

After the referee separates the fighters, Danzig lands multiple right hands to the body of Escudeo and clinches against the fence again with one minute remaining in the fight. Looking for his third win in his past five fights, Danzig lands a leg kick with 30 seconds left.

Keith Wisniewski vs. Chris Clements

Round 1

Entering the UFC on a four-fight winning streak, 36-year-old Chris Clements opens the fight with a leg kick. After missing with an overhand slap, Clements lands a left hook, but Keith Wisniewski drags the fight to the ground.

Wiseniewski quickly moves to side control. After landing a right hand, Wisniewski moves to full mount. Clements gives up his back, but regains half-guard shortly after. From the half-guard, Wisniewski lands left elbows, but the referee decides to stand the fighters up for some unbeknownst reason.

Clements kicks the lead leg of Wiseniewski and follows up with a left hand. A spinning back kick knocks Wisniewski to the ground, but the 30-year-old survives to the end of the round by threatening with a triangle choke.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Clements.


Round 2

Another leg kick by Clements opens the second round, but Wisniewski answers with a right hands and takes the fight to the ground. Wiseniewski lands two punches from half-guard before Clements uses the cage to stand.

Clements separates and lands an overhand right. The Canadian also scores with a body kick and lands another spinning back kick. 

A very tough Wisniewski scores another takedown and quickly takes Clements' back. With a body triangle locked up, Wisniewski tries to lock up a rear-naked choke, but Clements defends well and lands brutal elbows despite still being trapped in a body triangle.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Wisniewski (19-19).


Round 3

Early in the round, Wisniewski shoots in for a takedown. Clements delivers a knee to the head of Clements and fends off the takedown attempt.

A right hand lands for Clements, who follows the strike up with a spinning back kick. The Shawn Tompkins-trained fighter goes to the body of Wisniewski and lands with a left hook. 

After fending off the clinch of Wisniewski, Clements lands an elbow. A spinning backfist lands for Clements and Wisniewski drops to the canvas after a knee to the head.

Wisniewski shows his toughness by surviving to the end of the frame, but he probably didn't do enough to avoid his second straight loss.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Clements (29-28 Clements).

Marcus Brimage vs. Maximo Blanco

Round 1

Maximo Blanco begins his UFC career with a grazing kick to the head of Marcus Brimage. The former The Ultimate Fighter participant is unaffected and presses forward, though. A leg kick and straight punch land to the head of Blanco.

Brimage rushes forward and lands another left hand midway through the opening round. Blanco ducks a punch and briefly takes the fight to the ground. As Brimage works his way back to his feet, Blanco scores with an uppercut.

As Brimage looks to press forward again, Blanco counters with a right hook. The fighters trade leg kicks with about one minute left in the frame. The aggressor in this first round, Brimage tags Blanco with another combination as he moves forward.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Brimage.

Round 2

Brimage lands a leg kick to the lead leg of the Venezuelan, but Blanco answers with a front kick. Blanco attempts another front kick, but Brimage counters. A flying knee lands for Blanco, but Brimage answers by knocking his opponent to the canvas with a left hook.

The 28-year-old quickly regains his feet and the pace slows. 

A left hook lands for Brimage, then both competitors simultaneously land left hooks. Blanco counters another rushing attack from Brimage with a right hook and lands a puch kick at the end of the round.

B/R scores the round 10-9 Blanco (19-19).

Round 3

A head kick misses for Blanco and Brimage swipes the 28-year-old's other leg out from under him. Blanco returns to his feet and attempts a takedown, but Brimage stuffs it and lands while rushing forward.

With slightly more than one minute remaining in the fight, both fighters swing, but nothing significant lands for either competitor. Another takedown attempt is stuffed by Brimage, which may seal the close fight for him on the scorecards.

Both fighters feel they won, though, and they begin to mock each other by mimicking the other's celebrations.
