Martha Hart's Lawsuit Against WWE Dismissed; What This Means for Owen's Legacy

The Doctor Chris MuellerMay 31, 2018

According to ABC News affiliate KMBC News, an interesting development in the lawsuit filed by Martha Hart against WWE has come to light. Here is what the report had to say.

"

Martha Hart sued WWE and McMahon in 2010 during her first run for the Senate, which the Republican lost to Democrat Richard Blumenthal. Hart said the company used the image of her late husband, Owen Hart, in videos and other materials without her permission and despite her objections.

Judge Stefan Underhill last week dismissed the claims against McMahon and her husband, Vince McMahon, and most claims against WWE. He said the company, which is based in Stamford and has formally changed its name from World Wrestling Entertainment to WWE, retained a right to Owen Hart's wrestling career.

The most interesting bit is where is says, "WWE retained a right to Owen Hart's wrestling career."

This opens up the flood gates for a couple possibilities for Owen Hart fans to finally have some of their dreams come true.

If WWE was told they own the rights to his wrestling career, then that means they have the right to produce a DVD devoted solely to Owen's incredible career.

Ever since WWE put out the Bret Hart DVD and the DVD highlighting the entire Hart family, fans have been begging WWE to release a DVD of Owen's best matches and moments, and now that looks more possible than ever.

While Owen was never "the guy" in WWE, he was certainly a major force in the company for many years. He held just about every title except the WWE Championship, and he proved he was great as a face or a heel.

One other thing this could make a possibility is a Hall of Fame induction. Having Owen not be in the hall is something many fans think makes it incomplete. They believe he should be there next to his father and brother.

I agree. Owen would have deserved a Hall of Fame induction by now even if he had not tragically died and continued his career into the present.

He was one of those wrestlers who literally had it all: charisma, mic skills, legitimate mat-wrestling ability, agility, dedication and a sense of humor that has been well documented.

I really hope this development leads to a DVD, but at the very least this should make it possible to induct him into the Hall of Fame, with Bret accepting on his behalf.

The world lost an amazing talent the day Owen Hart passed, and we were lucky to be able to see his amazing ability on television for over a decade.
