10 Philadelphia Flyers Playoff Beards to Look Forward to

Ian BarryApr 3, 2012

The playoffs are just days away, and with the playoffs comes the great tradition of playoff beards.

While every team has players that subscribe to the superstition of not shaving, Flyers fans can look forward to some quality facial hair this postseason.

Most heavily bearded teams are filled with veteran players who have been in the playoffs for years and have perfected the craft. The Flyers have a good mix of players. Some of them have been to the playoffs many times and can grow a strong beard, but others are much younger and are growing the beard for the first time.

The Flyers might not have the strongest or thickest beard lineup, but they will have some strong beards once the playoffs start. With the team having locked up a playoff spot, fans can take a look at some playoff beards to look forward to.

Danny Briere

1 of 10

Danny Briere does not have the biggest or the thickest beard and sometimes it appears that he can barely have one at all. While it's not the best on the team, his facial hair in the playoffs is always interesting.

Briere is a small guy and sometimes looks like a kid on the ice. Facial hair does not come easy for him but he grows what he can for the playoffs.

Briere grows a solid goatee, but maybe that is all he can grow. Regardless of the reason, his facial hair is great because it makes him look like Zoro, or like a Briere evil twin.

Ilya Bryzgalov

2 of 10

Bryzgalov has not been known for growing facial hair during his career. It is possible that he never has because he has never been past the first round of the playoffs.

Bryzgalov is Russian, and it is a well-known fact that the Russians are a hairy people. So, it is very likely that Bryzgalov could grow a nice beard. Hopefully this postseason, Flyers fans get to see it because most likely it will be humongous.

Sean Couturier

3 of 10

Sean Couturier is a young player who does not have any playoff experience. Because he's so young, his playoff beard talents are unknown to fans.

Couturier is a very talented player, so it is very likely that his beard will be just as impressive as his skills on the ice. Fans should expect great things from him in the playoffs, both on the ice and on his face.

Maxime Talbot

4 of 10

Maxime Talbot has been to the playoffs several times with his former team the Pittsburgh Penguins. During his previous playoff runs, Talbot has shown that he has the ability to grow a full and robust beard.

The Flyers lost a great beard when they lost Ville Leino to free agency. With the addition of Talbot, the team adds an even better beard to the lineup for the playoffs this season.

Jakub Voracek

5 of 10

Jakub Voracek is a talented young player that was acquired from Columbus in a trade during the offseason. He has been improving all season and is becoming a dominant force heading into the playoffs.

While Voracek has been growing as a player, his beard has been growing as well. Now that the regular season is ending, he has built up a solid beard that fans can only assume will get better in the playoffs.

Jaromir Jagr

6 of 10

Jaromir Jagr has been to the playoffs many times during his impressive career. While he has never been known as a player with a large playoff beard, this time around things could be different.

Jagr has been the crafty veteran for the Flyers this season, who has had a five o'clock shadow almost all season. He's 40 years old now, and his beard might be a little grey, but it should come in nicely for the playoffs.

Claude Giroux

7 of 10

Claude Giroux has been impressive on the ice for the Flyers all season, showing the league how skilled he really is. He also showed the league how well he can grow a mustache earlier this season.

Giroux has already shown that he is willing to use dye to make his facial hair more noticeable. If his beard is anything like his mustache, it will be very impressive.

Scott Hartnell

8 of 10

It is a well-known fact that Scott Hartnell is a very hairy person. He is recognized for his long, curly hair, which is always hanging out from the back of his helmet.

When Hartnell has grown a beard in the past, he starts to look like a furry mountain man. By the end of the playoffs, he might need to start trimming the hair so he can see the puck.

Regardless of how hairy Hartnell gets, he will have one of the best beards on the ice.

Kimmo Timonen

9 of 10

Kimmo Timonen is the most experienced defenseman for the Flyers. He is the leader of the defense now that Chris Pronger is out and he is also the defenseman with the best beard.

Lots of playoff experience has given Timonen chances to grow his beard out in the past. He is a crafty veteran, and all crafty veterans have excellent playoff beards.

Braydon Coburn

10 of 10

Braydon Coburn is not known for being a player with a thick beard. While he might not be the best at growing a beard, the Flyers' defense does not have many players that grow beards at all.

Because the defense is low on facial hair, it is important that Coburn steps up and grows his beard out for the playoffs.
