MLB Prospects Video: Trevor Bauer's Extreme Long Toss
For all those unfamiliar with Trevor Bauer’s pregame throwing routine, you’re missing out.
Bauer, who appeared earlier this morning as Prospect Pipeline’s No. 8 overall prospect, has already become somewhat of a legend for his extreme long toss prior to making a start.
What begins as average long toss quickly develops into Bauer, age 21, standing in center field, heaving the ball back to his catcher while incorporating more torque into every throw.

From center field, the Diamondbacks’ No. 1 prospect starts to gradually work around the warning track towards the opposite foul pole.
Before you know it, Bauer is uncorking missiles from line to line, arching throws over the other players loosening up in the outfield.
As Kevin Kaduk of Big League Stew estimates, the right-hander is playing 450- to 475-foot long toss, a routine he learned at Alan Jaeger’s long-toss camp when he was 10 years old.
It’s safe to say that despite how unusual it may be, the long-toss program has paid great dividends for Bauer.
Bauer appeared in four games this spring—including three starts—and posted a 3.60 ERA with a 9/1 K/BB ratio in 10 innings. He was hit around a bit in his last start, but his pure stuff is undeniably electric.
Bauer’s future is extremely bright, and he’ll make an immediate impact when he arrives to the Show. He’s a bona fide strikeout artist who treats pitching as a craft.
Regardless of how talented he is, there simply wasn’t room for Bauer on the team’s 25-man roster, as the Diamondbacks assigned him to Double-A on Friday. There, he will work on his command as he makes his rapid ascent to the major leagues.
