College Football Recruiting 2013: Battle for Top RB Ty Isaac Is Just Heating Up
The USC Trojans have a major need at running back in their 2013 class. Naturally, they've extended an offer to arguably the best running back recruit in the country, Ty Isaac, but they're not alone.
Isaac has offers from just about every major program in the country, but if the Trojans want to be the ones to land the 6'2", 220-pound potential superstar, they'll have to fend off the more local Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Michigan Wolverines.
An Indiana native and product of Joliet Catholic Academy, Isaac has been a contributor since his freshman season but erupted in 2011 and capped his junior year with a 515-yard, six-touchdown performance in the state championship game.
It is safe to say that he's firmly on the minds of many coaches and offensive coordinators across the country.
But the chase for the rising senior could very well comedown to the Trojans, Irish and Wolverines.
Isaac will give the Trojans a shot to chat him up this week when he visits Los Angeles for the second time in his life. He was quoted by ESPN's Erik McKinney of We Are SC saying:
""I never really spoke to them, but once they offered, it's one of those programs up there with the big ones, like Michigan and Notre Dame," Isaac said. "I'm not saying I want to go to the biggest school I can, but you always want to at least check it out."
"It's more about sitting down with the coaches, talking about things and seeing what's what," Isaac said of what he is looking forward to accomplishing during the trip. "But then I also want to check out the scrimmage."
"
Given four stars and rated No. 18 overall by Rivals and five stars and No. 13 overall by Scout, everyone in the country knows this kid has the potential to be a legitimate superstar and immediate contributor.
The Irish and Trojans will get together at the Coliseum in the regular season finale, but only Notre Dame will play the Wolverines this season. Michigan will play the Irish under the lights in South Bend on September 22nd.
Will these games have any bearing on Isaac's decision? Possibly. As of now, all we know that is the Trojans, Irish and Wolverines are all in the mix with plenty others.
This is nothing new for any of them they're used to battling on the field and on the recruiting trail—but it always something to keep track of.
A visit to Los Angeles is just the beginning for Ty Isaac, so buckle up for what will very likely be one of the most highly-contested recruiting battles in the country this season.
Here at Signed, Sealed, Delivered we'll break down a top recruiting battle every day in one of our many daily features. Be sure to check it out and have your say too—we're all ears.
