What's with the Superb Owl?

Living in the Philippines, a country where abundance of a basketball court is just like the abundance of slot machines in Las Vegas. It's a rare occurrence to see a football match played live in the idiot box, much more for Filipinos to go crazy over the Super Bowl.

You might misunderstood me. We Filipinos are also passionate in sports. We have a passion for basketball and much more with boxing. That's why an average Filipino, If ask about the Super Bowl, answers, "What's a Super Bowl?"

Well, I also ask the same question to one of my friend who had a native tongue, having a hard time in pronouncing English words, He answers me "What's the Superb owl?"

Come to think of it, I also don't know what's a "Superb owl," I mean Super Bowl, at least it's nature and origin, the history and it's story.

It originated in 1966 by a merger agreement between rival leagues the NFL and the American Football League (AFL). The name Super Bowl was the idea of AFL founder, Lamar Hunt, Hunt thought of the name after seeing his children playing with a toy called a Super Ball.

A small, round ball that is now on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH.

The Super Bowl debut was a game between NFL champion Green Bay Packers against the AFL champions Kansas City Chiefs in which the Packers won.

Then after five years, the NFL-AFL merger took place hence the Super Bowl continue, now the NFL's Championship game featuring the Conference champions. The American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC).

It is the most watched and perhaps most colorful TV broadcast in America with popular singers and musicians performing in the pregame festivities, the halftime show or even just in the singing of the national anthem.

Superb Owl, Super Bowl, Toilet Bowl...

One Non-American might ask themselves, "What's all the jitters about this Super Bowl?"

Is it because most people watch it that's why you ought to watch it? by the way "Most" refers to about 80 million and that's being conservative.

Is it because of the Star Spangled Banner being performed by famous Hollywood star?

Or is it because of Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction"?

I think not..

It's passion,

And what's passion?

I'm not a dictionary but I'll do my best to explain it, think of this, sometimes you like someone without, for any or for every reason same goes for the Super Bowl. You don't need to explain the joy that a touchdown brings, it's enough that you feel it.

So much of my dumb explanation, well part of it is because I had this weird feeling of liking someone simply because she had a new hair cut same goes for the Super Bowl..

By the way, my friend now calls it the "Soup e'r Bowl."
