Boise State Adds Another Great Quarterback to the 2013 Recruiting Class
The Tucson Citizen reported that Ryan Finley, a quarterback out of Paradise Valley High School in Phoenix, Arizona, has committed to play football for Chris Petersen and the Boise State Broncos in 2013.
Finley is a tall kid with some serious speed. The Idaho Statesman is reporting that Finley runs a 4.6 second 40-yard dash and has a 35-inch vertical jump.
He is 6'4", 180 lbs, and is also extremely smart. He currently has a 4.5 GPA; a number most students can only dream of.
He is a special player, and was quoted in the Tucson Citizen saying, "It's always been a dream of mine to go to Boise State." Sounds like someone watched a couple of Fiesta Bowls.
Finley is the type of recruit Coach Petersen is always looking for. Finley is hard working, smart, a good student and an all-around good young man.
Petersen offered him the scholarship during an unofficial visit to the Broncos campus on Wednesday. It only took Finley until Friday to say yes.
Finley will play his senior season at Paradise Valley this fall, but no word yet if he plans to enroll in January of 2013 or come to Idaho in the summer.
With the amount of talent the Broncos have sitting at quarterback, there is probably no hurry for him to arrive. However, you never know what Petersen is thinking. Who knows—he might be working on a three-quarterback system. No one would be surprised.
Finley is the third commit to the 2013 recruiting class for the Broncos. The others are Alec Dhaenens, a tight end out of Fruitland High School in Fruitland, Idaho, and Joe Martarano, a linebacker from the same school.
As discussed in a recent Bleacher Report article, Martarano will still have to decide between Boise State and a career in professional baseball.
Overall, the 2013 class already looks like it could be a good one, but you never know until offers are officially signed.
With Coach Petersen picking up Finley's commit, it will be intriguing to see if he still goes after quarterback Cooper Bateman out of Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City. It has been reported by Scout.com that Bateman was a high target for the Broncos.
Jared Goff from Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California was another reported target at quarterback for the Broncos.
Maybe at this point Petersen still pursues both of those guys just in case Finley decides to go elsewhere.
It has to be challenging being a head coach in such a competitive recruiting world like FBS college football. With all the unknowns and what-if scenarios, it is a wonder that coaches don't go mad.
One thing the Broncos will have going for them next year is the move east. With the Broncos joining the Big East in 2013, you would think the added exposure and increased competition would make it a little easier to land quality recruits. Only time will tell, but it seems like that would be the case.
The 2013 season is a long way away, and it is probably not even wise speculating about it, but it does appear as if the Boise State Broncos have a great head start.
