Young Talent, Brian Scott, Rejoins Xpress Motorsports
Brian Scott was supposed to drive for Bill Davis Racing in 2009, in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
But with the sale of the team, he finds himself somewhere he thought he’d never return — back on his father’s team at Xpress Motorsports.
Scott drove for Xpress in 2008, but made an alliance with Bill Davis Racing for the final seven races as the team switched to Toyota.
Bill Davis paired him up with crew chief Jeff Hensley and the duo had immediate success.
In the final seven races, they compiled two top-five finishes, five top-ten finishes and an 8.6 finishing average.
With the December sale of Bill Davis Racing to Marty Grant and Mike Held’s Triad Racing Technologies, everything has changed.
While they say they are evaluating the teams, they will shortly announce which teams they have in 2009.
What is known is that, along with Mike Skinner, Brian Scott has been released, as Triad Racing Technologies has no plan to field a truck team this season.
As a fan, I don't get this move. Why buy the team if you are not going to use the best part to get towards winning a Cup?
Scott is only 21 years old. The kid is loaded with talent and he has a very bright future. With more development, he could have eventually moved to the Sprint Cup on the team.
Nonetheless, NASCAR is good regardless of what happens.
J.B. Scott, Brian’s father and the owner of Xpress Motorsports, has officially announced that he'll be fielding a team for his son Brian in 2009. He will be in the No. 16 with Toyota as the manufacturer.
Originally, Xpress Motorsports did not plan to field a truck in 2009 but changed their mind after the deal to Triad Racing Technologies was complete.
Along with Brian and his crew chief Jeff Hensley, a large number of former Bill Davis Racing employees will be working on his trucks and serve on his pit crew.
Albertson's will return as Scott’s sponsor, but they are looking for someone to help share the sponsorship. Albertson’s only has a partial season contract with the team.
"In the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series landscape, there's been significant changes,” Byrd said. "We're happy to have Brian back here. We think he'll be as competitive here as anywhere else.”
The team hopes that Scott will be competing for the championship. With Hensley as his crew chief, no one should count him out by any means.
It will be exciting to see how Brian does in 2009. I’m sure he'll record his first truck win. His father obviously knows how talented his son truly is. I'm projecting him to be in the top five in final points standing at the end of the year and I definitely won't be surprised if he does even better than that.
All you Cup fans—add the name Brian Scott to your future driver list. He is tremendously talented. While he needs more seat time, he will be a guaranteed racer for the Sprint Cup in a few years.
