NBA Rumors: Bucks Should Capitalize on Brandon Jennings' Worth in Trade Market

Nicholas GossFeb 18, 2012

The Milwaukee Bucks should capitalize on star point guard Brandon Jennings' value in the trade market and deal him since he has not pledged his long-term future to the struggling club.

Despite some recent comments made to ESPN, the Bucks seem unwilling to deal their best young player.

There's been no indication yet that the Bucks are prepared to trade Brandon Jennings in the wake of his "doing my homework on big-market teams" comment to ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussardย last week.

The word for now, at least, is that Milwaukee isn't letting the fact that Jennings has made public his reluctance to commit long-term to an unglamorous market alter his cornerstone status.

"

Jennings is a good player, but the Bucks aren't going anywhere in the Eastern Conference with him right now and with their current roster set up the way it is, the team is not anย attractiveย destination for upcoming free agents.

If the future looked brighter for the Bucks, keeping him around would make sense, but Milwaukee doesn't have many talented young players other than Jennings and center Andrew Bogut.

If the Bucks are where they're at right now when it's time for Jennings to decide his free-agent future then it's unlikely he will re-sign with them when a large market can offer him the combination of money and a chance to win.

The Bucks would be smart to trade Jennings to a desperate team at the trading deadline next month and acquire at least one first-round draft pick in exchange for him.

This year's NBA draft class is loaded with talent and might be one of the deepest drafts in years. There are some great talents throughout the entire first round and having multiple picks in the top 20 or so selections could really help the Bucks stockpile some great young talent.

Jennings' future doesn't have to be decided now, but Milwaukee would be foolish not to consider any offers they receive from teams looking to overpay to acquire their star point guard.
