Jeremy Lin: What Jimmer Fredette Should Learn from Knicks Point Guard

Jimmer Fredette was last year's basketball media sensation. This year, Jeremy Lin has taken over that role. So what can Fredette learn from Lin?

Fredette has not had a great year with the Sacramento Kings. He's averaged just 8.6 points in 21 minutes of play per night. As a player drafted to be a pure scorer, he's not even doing what he was signed to do. 

So, again, what can Fredette learn from Lin?

The first thing he can learn is to be patient. One thing that people are forgetting throughout this Lin situation is that he didn't suddenly burst onto the scene. Lin is in his second season. 

Last year, no one knew or cared who Lin was. He played 284 minutes and scored 76 points. 

That being said, he improved. He kept working. He didn't give up. Granted, he's not the only player to ever do that and have it pay off. However, he is the latest. He's also had the most immediate, vivid contrast. He improved his game. If Fredette wants more time, he needs to get better. 

The next thing he can learn is about "Lintensity." Lin plays every play like it matters. He is constantly aggressive and attacking with the ball. He doesn't care what happened last time, even if he missed a shot or turned it over. 

Fredette can benefit by matching that level of intensity. 

On top of that, he can look at Lin and realise that he has dealt with far more discouragement for inspiration.

Lin's failure to give up when he was sent to the D-League, his irrepressible nature, is what most defines him. Fredette may be feeling like he's in the "D-League" compared to where he was last year, but he should look at Lin's fortitude for inspiration. 

Fredette isn't quite disappointing, but he may be feeling disappointed in himself. He can use Lin as both his inspiration and a model to get better next year.
