WWE Raw Results: Top 15 Moments from Last Night's Show
Last night, WWE produced a very interesting Raw show. I don't know if it did a lot for Sunday's PPV event, but it certainly had a few fantastic segments.
As a show to build up the Elimination Chamber, I'd grade this show a C-. If I was just looking at a nice edition of Raw, it would be in the B range. Very up-and-down show from WWE last night...
15. Tamina Snuka
1 of 15I like the new name. It gives her an extra layer to her character and makes her stand out more. She doesn't have much of a chance to defeat Beth Phoenix on Sunday for the Diva's title, but this was a quality piece of television.
Tamina beat one of the Bella sisters (can't tell them apart) in short order and stared down the champ. Easy, simple segment that made me want to see their match live this Sunday night!
14. Smackdown Main Event
2 of 15WWE announced that Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton would take place on Smackdown this week. I am fine with that, as their match last week was great.
You could question the logic in seeing such a big match again so soon, but I won't. In my mind, this is WWE's way of telling us Orton will be the next World Champion.
Hence, they are "giving away" this match!
13. Nice Opener
3 of 15I am not discussing the "Debate" here.
I am referring to the video package that opened Raw. That was well done. WWE often times goes straight to the live arena without a recap from the previous weeks.
This week, we got a quick video about Kane, John Cena and Eve Torres to let viewers know what was going on. Fans often forget that people do not watch the product every single week.
It is nice to be kept up to date with the storylines if you are not a diehard fan. WWE took note of that Monday night.
12. The Rock Hype
4 of 15The Rock made quite a few media appearances last week. Most were to promote his new movie released last Friday. Others focused on his WrestleMania match on April 1st, 2012.
That is a major deal. WWE got tons of attention from Rocky at lots of locations, and the payoff will be at 'Mania. To show a video of all of his appearances was a nice move.
11. Debate
5 of 15This was entertaining.
However, it really didn't accomplish much. The entire concept seemed forced, and I never got into the promos. Everybody tried their best, but I never fully cared.
R-Truth was crazy. Miz was his usual great self. Dolph Ziggler and Vickie were just "there." Also, Chris Jericho and CM punk continued to tease tension on their way to Wrestle Mania.
Johnny Ace and David Otunga made an appearance, but it meant nothing. He later teased being both the Raw and Smackdown general manager. Please no!
Even Punk resorted back to his offensive jokes that just aren't funny in 2012. He really needs to get away from that type of tone.
I must give major props to Kofi Kingston, though. The man has shined in the past, but he did a nice job last night separating himself from the pack. Sadly, it was totally flushed down the toilet minutes later...
10. Jericho vs. Kofi
6 of 15Kingston said he was overlooked. He said he wasn't going to take it anymore. The man cut a great promo about making fans believe in him going forward.
Then he lost in five minutes.
Jericho should have won last night. No doubt. However, Kofi's big moment was made to look meaningless in the very next segment.
WWE gave him an "out" with the thumb to the eye, but it didn't matter. Kofi had an outstanding promo to begin the show, but he followed it up with a loss in short order.
Such a shame.
9. Ziggler vs. Truth
7 of 15Anybody want to tell me Ziggler is going to have a major role at 'Mania now?
He has a great year ahead of him, but now is not the time. Just like Cody Rhodes, his time will come. Be patient, folks!
He lost to R-Truth last night, and I was fine with the outcome. Truth is starting to turn into a comedy figure, so he needs wins to remain a legitimate threat inside the squared circle.
On a final note, Vickie Guerrero looked excellent last night!
8. Santino Joke
8 of 15I had to give this a high ranking.
His appearance on Raw was so poorly placed. I love Santino Marella! He delivers more often that not. Sadly, Monday was just not his night. His "joke" backstage was just not needed.
Coming from a big fan, that says a lot...
7. Big Show vs. Randy Orton
9 of 15This was a fine match.
It could be considered a "big match," but I really don't see it what way. Big Show vs. Randy Orton is not going to sell PPV events. Not a single one.
That way, WWE can have this match without much to worry about. The finisher looked off, but they are both veterans. The two reset and went right back to the match.
Daniel Bryan was ringside for all of this, but he didn't do anything. Michael Cole continues to play a "tweener" role in this situation that I do not enjoy.
The World Champion stood tall, and I continue to think a new champion is coming Sunday night...
6. The Live Crowd
10 of 15I was a little disappointed in the live crowd last night. WWE usually has a wonderful atmosphere for California, but I just didn't get that vibe here.
Twitter served me well last night, as I asked a WWE fan in attendance last night how the show was. She replied in kind, saying the crowd was great, and it was really loud. For more great tweets from her, click here!
Trust me! The live perspective of a WWE event is always different from how it comes across on television. I have been to over 20 WWE shows. Honestly, I've lost count as to how many wrestling events I have been to live. I will be at Elimination Chamber this Sunday, as a matter of fact.
Perhaps my TV set was damaged last night? Maybe I am alone in this one? Could it just have been the live feel of the show?
Let me know, folks! Was the crowd great last night or am I alone in thinking the crowd was quiet?
5. Miz vs. Punk
11 of 15Wow, what a punishment...
A main event match on Raw against the WWE Champion! Just six days before being in the Elimination Chamber main event on PPV! I'd hate to be Miz right now! What a terrible spot to be in!
Seriously, there is a reason you can't believe everything on the Internet.
The Miz vs. CM Punk was a fun match last night. There was no way Punk was losing, but both men worked hard to put on a good show.
Again, the hype for the Sunday's PPV was nearly invisible, but this match was fine. Nice job to all the Chamber participants, as I look forward to their match in five days!
4. Safety Comes First!
12 of 15I really want to enjoy a show when I watch it.
I don't want to be holding my breath hoping the performer is OK.
Last night, I was taken out of the moment when Zack Ryder was thrown off the stage. WWE must like having "Zacks" fall down in wheelchairs because this was another "spot" that was too dangerous.
Instead of thinking about how great the move was for this storyline, I was worried about how Zack landed. You could argue that was the entire point, but it went beyond the actual ending.
Just a day removed from a real, scary situation in TNA, this was just too close for comfort. Just as I wish Jesse Sorensen a speedy recovery, I hope Ryder wasn't seriously injured here!
Even Mick Foley is expressing concern for Ryder! Click here for more on his comments.
When Foley is concerned over a "spot," you know it was too much. This crossed that line WWE likes to walk so much.
It may look foolish, but I would take using crash pads than having a man really end up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Safety comes first, folks!
3. Shawn Michaels
13 of 15This was excellent.
Shawn Michaels has always been great in his comedic segments, but his serious character is just so much better. We saw that last night.
It started off with Triple H and Shawn Michaels playing "buddies," but the situation quickly turned a corner, and I loved every second of it.
HBK was right in everything he said, just as The Game was. They both made plenty of great points, and Undertaker continues to wait for an answer.
Just as I don't expect to see him Sunday in Milwaukee, I can't imagine anybody was expecting to see Taker live in the arena Monday night. Yet another video promo from Taker, and yet another well-done tease for WrestleMania.
I would have loved to see Undertaker pulling his hair out in frustration instead of using a blade. Now that would have been epic!
2. Live This Sunday!
14 of 15Four matches?
Am I missing something here? Two Chamber matches, Kane vs. Cena, and a Diva's title match? Well, I certainly hope for a little bit more than that.
Maybe Brodus Clay can show some of his funk to Wisconsin! I know I will be up and dancing if he comes out Sunday night. Other than that, I have no idea what will be added to the show.
As most know, I bought two tickets to the event back in December (well over $200). However, the power of positive thinking kicked in once again, as I won four tickets from the PWR Show last week in a trivia contest. Very appreciated!
With six tickets now in my possession, it is going to be an excellent event Sunday night. Once again, I ask for any fun sign/poster ideas. Just let me know in the comments or on Twitter!
1. Poor Zack
15 of 15Let me just make a couple notes on this entire situation from last night:
1. Get ready for another round of "fantasy booking" about Cena turning heel. I have never once predicted such an event, and that is not going to change now. Good luck to everybody else discussing it for the 45,388th time!
2. Last night, WWE convinced me Kane may actually win Sunday. I have been leaning towards an easy win for Cena all along, but his words were very ominous. However, so were Jericho's before the Rumble!
3. Eve has to be the heel in all of this, right? The more this continues, the more I believe she is with Kane. He never attacks her, and a turn to the "dark side" could be interesting for Eve. I suppose we could find out Sunday what all of this is really about.
4. Cena will not embrace the hate (just like myself), but he seemed to embrace that kiss from Eve. Again, if Kane's plan all along was to use Eve (turning heel) to turn the "broskis" against each other, it was brilliant.
5. I don't know about any of you, but Ryder certainly seems to be acting a lot more serious as of late. Uh oh! Could it actually be true? The one thing I have been saying about him for months now may actually happen...sound familiar Jo-Mo fans?
Reminder: I am now on Twitter @JustinWatry! I give every new follower a special shout out, so do not be shy...thanks.
