NBA Rumors: Why Philadelphia 76ers Should Pursue Free Agent J.R. Smith

Jun 1, 2018

With the Philadelphia 76ers sitting in third in the Eastern Conference and first in the Atlantic Division, there is already so much talent on the team.

Adding J.R. Smith would help solve some of their offensive woes that rear their ugly heads when the team plays better teams. Smith can be another bench scorer that can step in and play big minutes when needed.

The duo of Jodie Meeks would not be the greatest defensive paring in the NBA, but they could be one of the most dynamic shooting duos in the entire league.

With Smith returning to America after a stint in China, it’s time for the NBA star to weigh his options. Smith tweeted about his arrival date back into the United States:

While the consensus opinion is that Smith would rather sign with a team like the New York Knicks or the Los Angeles Lakers, there may be a no better team in the NBA for the selfish shooter than the Sixers.

The team has plenty of role players that have no problem playing shut-down defense. It’s what Doug Collins built his team around and all that defense can make up for J.R.’s deficiencies.

If Smith will buy into what the coaching staff is selling and go along with the program, he could be the scoring piece that turns Philadelphia from a stepping stone into a contender.
